Hi, my name's Paul, I 'm 55yrs old and I have been trying to get help with what I thought was Adhd for just over a year. I had a referral letter from my GPS but I was struggling to get a response from any of the providers in the Manchester area. Feeling somewhat frustrated, I contacted the ADHD Foundation in Liverpool and went for a test. The results showed that in their opinion I have Adhd and Autism, these results were sent to my GPS but yet again nothing. So I was wondering what people thought I should do next, do I just carry on as I have always done or is there a particular path that I should follow for help with a dual diagnosis. Thanks for reading this. Paul

Hi Paul! Did the ADHD Foundation give you formal diagnoses, or did you just take a QB test? Either way, if you want support and treatment you still need to be referred to local services. From what I hear, Manchester has a pretty long waiting list, although outer areas which come under Lancashire may be a bit shorter. Talk to your GP to find out where you have been referred to, then you can find out how long the waiting list is. Often you don’t hear anything until they’re able to offer you an appointment, which can sometimes be years! A lot of ASD services offer no post-diagnostic support. If you want to try meds for ADHD, you’ll need to be seen by a local specialist, or go privately. If you don’t have a formal diagnosis, you will need to have a specialist assessment. In the meantime, read as much as you can to try to understand what ASD/ADHD means to you and think about how you might put coping-strategies in place. You might want to go to Support Groups, or local charities.

Thanks for reading this. Paul Hi Paul, do you mean dual diagnosis for Adhd/autism of in the drug/alcohol Mental health sense? Dont know what part of manchester you are in, i've been waiting two years for my appointment, and about another year before that trying to get them to listen. Ignorant gp's etc. Hope this helps, if I knew what part of Manchester might be able to direct you better. Im in east manchester. SH 75 😀
