Hi,
i wondered if anyone had any useful thoughts. I was diagnosed with ADHD approx 18 months ago. I took xenidate and it helped, but after a few weeks - I don’t remember how long - one day I noticed my heart rate was slowly dropping. This freaked me out and I kept an eye on it. When it went below 40 BPM I went to accident and emergency convinced I was going to die. I have no idea how rational this was but I was very scared when I first started. Medication. There are s lot of scary stories about stimulants. By the time I was seen my heart rate was a more normal 60. They said they wouldn’t have been bothered if it was 40 anyway. My blood pressure was unusually high for me but they said it wasn’t high enough to worry about. When I saw my psychiatrist she said my heart rate might be low because I am healthy. I am not. 40bpm is not normal for me.
anyway I was too scared to keep using it so we started on Lisdex. This was amazing and it worked and it changed my life. Before I was diagnosed I was chronically suicidal because I just couldn’t function in my life, my level of functioning was very poor. I often couldn’t manage basic self care tasks.
unfortunately I became tolerant to Lisdex a few months back. I have stopped taking it and life is hell again. My prescriber has suggested we try Guanfacine. I will give it w go but I am aware non stimulants seem have a much lower treatment effect.
i wondered if a) my heart slowing down on xenidate is a thing I should worry about because if not maybe I should just try that again and also b) if there is a different methylphenidate pill I could take that wouldn’t slow my heart down.
any thoughts gratefully recieved I am very despairing, it’s, awful to have had a period of calm where I could function and now just be back to how I was before.
