Hi guys,
I’m new here and suspect many of you have experienced what I am about to mention.
I believe that I have had ADHD all my life but at 35 I have been to see my GP about it. We’re both in agreement that it is likely that I do have it and she has referred me for an assessment. I received a letter from their clinic at Manchester Royal Infirmary saying that there’s huge demand so expect to wait for some time. I understand that. I’ve currently been waiting about 6 months which I appreciate isn’t a long time. I’ve also been waiting now for about a year for CBT for social anxiety.
The problem is, I don’t feel I can wait any longer as it is affecting my quality of life and so am considering going private. I don’t earn a huge amount so this is a significant investment for me, particularly if medication and follow ups are required, so I just wanted to find out peoples experiences of whether they thought it was worth it or not?
I am about to begin PG study and am seeking to apply for disability students allowance but you have to have had an assessment in the first place.
To me, it feels like barriers and obstacles are purposefully put in the way of securing an assessment and diagnosis.
I am from the Manchester area if anyone has any recommendations?
thanks Antony
