Hi everyone!
I'm a 23 year old male living with ADHD (predominantly inattentive type) and I'm currently experiencing some problems I believe are related to my ADD medication.
I was diagnosed in July 2016 and was prescribed Elvanse (Lisdexamfetamine - starting at 30mg then increased to 50mg) which I took on-and-off for two and a half years until I took myself off entirely for the duration of a six month backpacking trip in Feb 2019.
I have now been back on 30mg (with a view to increase to 50mg) for seven weeks, everything was fine until two weeks ago when I started experiencing the following when medicated:
1. Brain fog that prevents me from being able to write essays etc.
2. Reading is very difficult because text becomes blurred.
3. Retaining information is impossible - nothing sticks.
3. I become completely socially withdrawn and it feel like I've forgotten how to have a conversation(?!) I have no sense of humour when medicated either.
4. It puts me in a very low mood and I become agitated very easily.
I have recently returned to education as a mature student and am studying a range of subjects that involve debate among classmates - I find myself not being able to participate at all because I cannot muster even the simplest idea to contribute. Normally I relish the opportunity to debate on a subject that interests me so this is extremely frustrating.
I have taken myself off the medication for now and am going to see my GP in a few days, in hopes I will be referred back to the specialised adult ADHD unit for a review.
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar to this?
Thank you for taking the time to read
Jonathan
