Hello everybody,
This is my first post. I hope that my enquiry is ok ? My daughter is 19 and from time to time since early teens says that she thinks she has ADHD or ADD. I have looked at the NHS website and yes she does have attention/concentration issues and some anxiety (this doesn't show particularly in how she lives her life but she is on Sertraline at moment). At sixth form college she was identified as having some indicators of Dyslexia but that she is not Dyslexic. It was found that she has Visual Eye Stress which effects her reading. She now has tinted glasses which has improved her reading. She did ok at school but not as well as I would have expected. She did not like reading (which at the time I did not understand but do now).
I do wonder of her difficulty in reading led to some her anxiety in a school context.
As I said I do not know if she has ADHD or ADD. When I look at the traits that characterize it/them (and that she seems to share) to my mind they are also characteristics that are found without being ADHD/ADD. I do not mean to minimize those traits at all. I suppose what I am saying is or asking for is there anywhere we can go for some management techniques to address the lack of concentration etc. Are there learnt techniques to deal with it rather than looking for a more formal diagnosis and treatment route ? Does that make sense ?
I look forward to hearing from anybody who feels they can advise.
