Hi I am completely new to all of this. I have a 4 year old daughter and I’m so confused.
I feel like something may not be quite right but I don’t have any other children to compare to. I’ve read the adhd and add symptoms and some symptoms resonate but others just don’t.
The main issues that we experience is that my daughter cannot be still. She is constantly squirming, fidgeting, jerking, climbing. Can’t sit still at mealtimes or bedtime. She has never just sat and had a cuddle in my
Knee. She is constantly shifting about. She climbs in my bed in the morning and spends an hour tossing, turning kicking, jerking about.
She generally hates tasks that involve concentration (Puzzles, colouring. Crafts). But will do them for a while if I sit with her and keep her on track. She absolutely will not be on her own to do anything.
She appears to have some sensory issues. Very picky eater, picky about the feel of clothes and labels etc. Constantly seeking pressure stimulus by pushing her feet and legs against things. Sensitive to heat and constantly stripping her clothes off.
She is very bright (eg she is beginning to grasp phonetics) but struggles to do any activity for longer than 5 mins. She doesn't play with toys unless I am there and then she expects me to lead everything so that she doesn’t have to think of things to say or do.
She goes to Preschool for a few hours each morning and they haven’t reported any problems other than that she is quite shy. But I haven’t asked specifically about whether she is able to keep still and listen etc.
And the one time that she is absolutely quiet and in deep concentration is when the tv is on.
I just wondered whether this might be add/Adhd or if it’s just general kid behaviour. I’m just really confused as to whether I should be seeking assistance from a gp or if I’m just being overanxious.
We’ve been referred to speech and language therapy by preschool as she struggles with some of her pronunciation. I’ve heard they will screen for adhd conditions.
Thanks in advance
