Hi all,
I am a 39 year old F and just been diagnosed with combined type. It’s a huge relief after knowing *something* wasn’t quite right with me my entire life and a mountain of diagnosis searching - this finally feels right. I’m awaiting my methylphenidate titration appointment which is gonna take a few months.
What I’m struggling with in the last week since diagnosis is other people’s reaction to my diagnosis, which hasn’t been what I expected. I didn’t expect a fanfare, but I did think friends and loved ones would be happy and positive for me. Some are, but they’re on the minority side. The main reaction I’ve got is one of indifference or disbelief, and kind of “are you sure you’re not just making a meal out of problems we all have” etc. “Don’t GPs hand out Ritalin like sweets to anyone that says they can’t concentrate” etc etc. I guess I’m having a crude introduction to ADHD stigma.
I would be grateful for any helpful comments or advice.
Many thanks

gratz Yeh, don't bother telling people you have ADHD. It's impossible for them to relate to us and vice versa.
