How reliable are the questionnaires used to identify adults with ADHD, Autism etc. Eventually after a life time (since early childhood) of struggling with a multitude of difficulties that severely affects his life, Covid and the recent death of an ex girlfriend which has exacerbated the situation, we persuaded our 54yr old son to seek help from his GP. He was asked to fill in a questionnaire, however it failed to identify any such issues. These are some of the areas he has difficulty with.
Maintaining personal/working relationships (has no close friends or very little social life) Organising/prioritising his work and managing time After initial enthusiasm, quickly loses interest and has difficulty completing tasks. Unpredictable mood changes Difficulty taking responsibility and accepting authority Interrupts and attempts to change conversations Drinks too much Cannot manage finances Has perfected the art of 'cover up' and can come across as a outgoing, confident guy, when he is the exact opposite.
His two brothers believe that his drinking habits are the cause of all his problems, whilst I believe it is a symptom not the cause.
I really would value any suggestions that might help.

Does he want help? Does he recognise he has these difficulties?
