I am trying to get help.
I have been told there's a three year waiting list for ADHD assessment.
I have sold my car to get a private assessment. I have one booked (through Clinical Partners). It's not until the end of January. Psychiatry-UK never even phoned me back.
My partner's ill. My business is falling apart because I depended on her to organise everything.
I'm really worried we'll be homeless by the time I get my assessment.
My life is really a mess and I have looked for peer-to-peer help. There's the Reddit forum for ADHD which has just left me feeling worse and this one where I can't see the posts.
I am not sure if I want to carry on living like this.

Sounds like you're having a bad time. Don't be ashamed to claim Universal Credit whilst you're struggling. It's not a lot but it will at least stop you losing your home.
Good luck.

Hi toocoolforschoolSorry to hear about your situation I went through similar several years ago, before I’d even heard about ADHD My dad used to help me with my invoices and sadly he died suddenly and weeks after my dads death my boyfriend (who worked for me) got diagnosed with cancer Long story short I ended up bankrupt and homeless as my house was part of the business (I had a pub) It all seemed disastrous and just heartbreaking at the time but honestly life goes on and you learn and grow from the experience I’m sure you won’t believe me you can never see a way out of the forest when you’re in the thick of it I sincerely hope u find a way to save your business and home but you won’t do that by waiting for an ADHD diagnosis to save the day because honestly it won’t Roll your sleeves up and find an innovative solution to your organisation problems or call it a day and try something else if you find your interest has disappaited Trust me if you have ADHD and you’ve lost interest in something it’ll save time, energy and a whole heap of frustration if you just move on You know you’ve lost interest when you spend more time looking for excuses than solutions Good luck dude

Before your diagnosis and any formal treatment happens, maybe try checking out www.ADDitude.com. It’s a big American ADHD organisation with loads of free resources and lectures with practical suggestions on how to manage symptoms, what complementary things can help (just how important sleep, exercise and mindfulness/strategies to deal with stress can be, and suggestions for ADHD-friendly diet and nutrition, for example) and give you a good grounding that might help you to work around your organisational problems enough to keep you afloat. I don’t know what type of business admin problems you’re having, but have you considered hiring a part-time Virtual Assistant? Basically a remote Secretary who you can brief to do a whole range of mundane and administrative things, and sometimes more specialised ones depending on their skill set, often for an hourly fee. Search for one on the internet or social media if you’re interested… Good luck!!

PS once you’re stabilised with medication (if you choose to go that way) you can ask to be fully transferred back into the NHS system for further prescriptions (not just “shared care” where the private doctor tells your GP what to prescribe). Haven’t tried it yet myself, but it’s supposed to be possible.
