My son has been diagnosed (privately) with inattentive type ADHD. The day before this ADHD diagnosis, he had been discharged from a Cardiac Care Unit having been diagnosed with superventricular tachycardia (extremely high heart beats per minute - his was recorded at 241 bpm). He has been prescribed beta blockers and referred for a catheter ablation to resolve the tachycardia. The psychiatrist wanted to prescribe Concerta XL but asked for agreement from the cardiologist, who has said the contraindications for the Concerta medication is too risky for the cardiac perspective. He hasn't recommended an alternative.
We will be going back to the psychiatrist to see what Plan B might be but has anyone got experience of ADHD medications being taken with cardiac conditions?

I failed the heart ECG when the specialist recommended Concerta XL so my GP at the time wouldn't prescribe it. I did later get another GP to prescribe it. I have also had several episodes of high pulse (around 200bpm) but have never been diagnosed with anything as it always goes back to normal after a few hours so I've never yet ended up in hospital.
