Is it worth getting a private diagnosis for my 6 (soon to be 7) year old daughter? She has no attention span or concentration, and the school are struggling to find a consistent way of helping her. So we are looking into getting a private diagnosis as the waiting list in our area is very very long and she might not have finished the process for 6 years. But if we start with a private diagnosis are we then stuck staying private for anything else to do with the diagnosis?

But if we start with a private diagnosis are we then stuck staying private for anything else to do with the diagnosis? I went private in 2011 (cost me £250) and got diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type and then got referred to an NHS specialist in Liverpool a few years later where I got prescribed Concerta XL. Am just about to get assessed again by the NHS so I can hopefully get treatment. So no, going private doesn't stop you getting NHS treatment later.
