We've discussed on and off having a mailing list. A lot of web sites have a little box near the top of the front page that people can sign up for, for example: www.moneysaving expert.com Which has a bit saying: "IMPORTANT! Most deals, best buys and loopholes end within a week The weekly MoneySaving email ensures you don't miss out" and then a box to put your address into. I have tried looking at the html of the page but can't see how the box is encoded. Anyone got any clue? Also, there is mailing list software around - which will handle unsubscriptions automatically and allow group work on newsletters etc. Anyone know anything about this, and if you can get it free? Atticus I have a few thoughts on ways of doing this but would like to investigate a bit before opening my mouth :-) . Can you remind me if I don't get back by the weekend. Can I double check I have understood what you want to achieve - A visitor to the website can add themselves to a mailing list
- From time to time, an admin of this site can send a newsletter to this list
- Members of the list are not allowed to send things to the list (presumably we need to make sure something sensible happens if they try)
- Members need to have a way of removing themselves
Or is there anything else you want to do

That's about it. The idea would be to send out a newsletter maybe once a month. At minimum it would be a reminder of upcoming meetings, very useful for ADHDers, but it could also have any news, points of interest and so on - even reader's letters. Quite a lot of people come to meetings either for the first time or after a really long gap and say that they keep meaning to come but... and I think regular reminders would be good. Similarly I am sure that people visit the web site and mean to come back but forget.

I don't want to tread on randoms toes, but if this is something that you still want on the site, Atticus, I could help out with it as I've implemented mailing lists on sites before.
