I am really sorry to hear about your dog, I feel for you, I have a golden retriever aged 13, he may have about 2 years left, but, he is like a member of the family and I love him to bits, he is a beautiful, loyal, loving dog, i'd like to hear what your dog was like.

Crumbs Redneck, that's really sad. I'm dreading the day I have to face that. Sorry to hear it, not much more to say really but don't let people undermine your grief.

It's more stupid saying "it sounds stupid" Any real person will have the same feeling. We had (a) parrot in the family, which died at 29 years of age, which is pretty poor when they can last up to 90 real years or so.....
Looked after by about 3 relatives (and their immediate families) and I was the last.. 29 years for goodness sake. Took me 3 years I think to really get over that. I just don't go there anymore..!

Hi redneck
Dogs are part of the family and when they die they are so sorely missed. I just dread the day when our dog is no longer here - she's such a character and bosses us through the day to make sure we do what she wants us to do - in between times she gives us loads of enjoyment!
No it's not sad to feel grief for the loss of a dog, it's part of being human.

i still get sad when i think of our lovely dog that had to be put down in march, the day before my auntie. (my auntie wasn't put down i hasten to add, and was a lovely woman). I felt closer to the dog though than to most people! I smile when i think of her now though rather than cry (although your post has triggered some tears). thinking of you and hope you're starting to feel better x
