Hi all!! I am asking for a favour, , now, not sure if I am allowed to advertise anything other than ADHD, soon find out!! I am doing a sponsored Skydive in January 2010, for Guide Dogs for the Blind, this is close to my heart, as a family member is partially sighted. I am a member of Guide dogs and attend many fund raising events. I am willing to sponser charity events in return for your kindness I am a permanent member on here and if you have any questions just PM me. Of course, I know only a few of you in person and met you at the Bristol Support Group, and I do understand that donating money on the internet concerns some people. However, a friend has already done so and is perfectly ok. You can PM me to get my email address and mobile phone number and set up a PAYPAL you can even be added to my facebook if u wish, then see the video footage in Jan 2010!! I know it's early days, but the 500 target can be done! ;D I know we are in a recession, but, this is a great cause and apart from ADHD, I also feel strongly about training these fantastic puppies- they cost 40,000 for each puppy to train, breed and their are the vet and feeding biils, not to mention that Guide Dogs soley relies on voluntary contributions and voluntary help. You will be helping Blind and Partially sighted people to have a reason for living. Thank you ver much ;D xxx Hayley

Bloody ell, that's brave/mad/admirable.
I just could not bring myself to do that because of worry about the risks of failing. Still, I seem to make an impact on people sometimes, just not the oil digging platform equivalent.
So, who else has done such courageous acts as bungee jumping, gliding, etc? Is that 40,000 a typo?
Well, if you do that, I will only be able to contribute a not-so-worthy amount to the fund.

Cheers Boo, Andy, so far 40.00 is raise!! Andy, It doesn't matter how much you give, infact, there is no pressure, I know some of us work part-time or don't work, so, I can only ask those who can genuinely afford it. I am grateful for anything-this is a worthy cause. I used to be sporty at school and I am probably slightly mad too ;D No, Boo, never done anything so crazy, not bungy jumped ever, nearest thing was going on Oblivion at Alton Towers and standing on the see through glass in the CN Tower, Canada, oh and abseiling in Morfa Bay, Wales. but, I thrive on that adrenaline, mouth in stomach, nerves, also, it will be with a qualified instructor My sister is partially sighted and has overcome her disabilities to become a lawyer-so, it proves that in life- a disability, like Blindness, poor sight, Adhd, u can better your life!! Thanks Allie, to those on the forum, your brilliant!- , no 40,000 is not a typo- that is how much it costs to pay for a puppy, training, breeding, vet and feeding bills in the dog's lifetime, over a million pounds is spent each year on training the puppies. Sadly, some of the puppies don't make the training grade and therefore stay as domestic rather than working dogs. My sister and her bfriend are getting a guide puppy of their own soon, they are keeping him for 9 months, teaching him to walk the correct way, and then he wil be passed to a Blind person to become his/her working dog, she will be bringing the puppy along on the day of the jump about 5th Jan 2010. I will have a video of this day and everyone can witness my fear just to make it all worthwhile:) Thanks for your interest on behalf of Guide Dogs x

I am shocked at the cost to train a dog for a no-doubt important task and I love their element of calmness in the shops. I was in somerfield the other day and noticed a black dog that was like a horse, no exaggeration honest!
If their workspan is say 8?? years, that is roughly £5000 per year! Argh, and some of them fail.. What a shame.
Humans will never ever be able to appreciate what they have, until they lose it, then it's too late.. Gone, possibly forever.
Whether deaf, blind, mute, paralysed, whatever ailment, the suffering is worse if it happens other than from a very young age.
(thinks about dogs walking incorrectly) Well, this dog will probably not be walking correctly if it continues.

When I walk my dog I meet a guy who always has a guide dog puppy in training for the 1st year of its life, to socialise them etc. I love walking with him and the dogs are always totally gorgeous and I fall in love with them and its always sad when they're ready to go! The last one he had actually failed (I can't remember the reason) but there is always a huge queue for failed or retired guide dogs because they're such lovely dogs. This one was rehomed with one of the guide dog trainers as her pet (lucky thing!).
I get so overwhelmed by their cleverness and ability, it totally reduces me to tears. As well as guidedogs for blind, you can get them for deaf and disabled. I used to bump into a woman in a wheel chair with a dog for the disabled who used to get washing out for her etc.
I tried to train my dog to be a guide dog for ADHD disability (ie finding my keys) but unfortunately I failed miserably!!! However, isn't that a great idea? With their noses we'd only have to say the word of the thing we'd lost and they'd take us straight there.

i bet the rush your gonna get will be amazing, i love rollercoaters but hate heights so those rides for instance where you are strapped onto the side of the tower and it shoots you to the top and then down again, i hate with a passion cos they leave you at the top for what feels like ages and i get panicky, i love the coming down bit though

yeah Andy, the cost is shocking, that's about right- 5,000 for 8 years, love the crazy dog video, so funny!! Allie, aren't they gorgeous, they are sooo cute and I just melt whenever I am near them!! I know some of the guide dogs are trained to even get the owner's cash out of the cash machines!! I love rollercoasters too Boo, the scary, yet exciting feeling you experience, I don't want to think too much about the jump-until the time comes, then my stomach will be in my mouth and adrenline surging through my body!!

I saw my 'guide dog dog-walking companion' yesterday when I was walking Beauty. He has a lovely snow white lab at the mo, she's gorge, 8 months old. I'm so fascinated by them. He's also looking after a 10 week old black lab guide dog pup for another person while they're away for a couple of days! I was chatting to him for ages, they're so remarkable.
By the way, with reference to my previous post where I said that his last dog failed, I asked him why again because I'd forgotten, and it was such a shame because he was a lovely, bright dog but he developed an allergy and so didn't pass.
He was telling me about Harley, the one before who I was in love with, with his blind owner, he goes to church and apparently when the kneel to pray, they've taught Harley to kneel too!! lol I really bonded with that dog, I miss seeing him!

Gosh Haydreamer you're a lot braver than me! I think my heart would stop if I had to jump out of plane. I get dizzy standing on a chair.
Anyway, this is a really good cause and I do hope you reach your goal!
I knew a lady who was very hard of hearing, and she had a dog that was trained to work with the deaf (he was a little dog of unknown parentage--really cute). One of his jobs was to tell her the time so whenever her clock chimed the hour, he would sit right in front of her and bark the hours, but he didn't do it between the hours of 10 pm to 7 am. He was amazing!

Thanks Roland, for your donation- ;D It is a mad thing to do, but my sis has done a skydive-she says its fine, I'm with qualified instructors- can't think about it yet thou- save the terror later ;D Barking at the clock- I've heard everything now!! LOL
I know what you mean, PB, by being fascinated, they so calm and gorgeous!! They taught Harley to kneel too, oh, that's so lovely, and cute!! I was in Sainsbury's last night looking for some cake mix for my mum's B'day cake, and saw one of my Guide Dog members, he had a 8 month old black lab pub, he was on his best behaviour, Major, and the trainer joked that because he is a male- he doesn't like shopping- he was yawning, and looked totally bored, lol, I am envious, my sis is training a pup soon, so, that means frequent trips to London, to dog sit, as soon as my dog ollie, leaves this earth, I'm 100% getting a guide puppy!!

Funny man rofl.
The dog above me is actually the pet of the french man who climbs the side of tall buildings.
It's just the camera angle makes it look like a parachute missing.. Front claws are very advantageous.

Hay, Well done, before you know you will be plummeting towards earth at 120mph and then deploying parachute. Right, so now one laughed at my joke regarding the cute lab (aren't they always?) photo on page 1! The trauma! Now, that is violation of my humour-n rights. (oh, groan, I don't normally do corn, but if I do, it's with olive oil, salt and black pepper!) Now, I am forced to restate my joke just in case no one actually understood it, although judging by the wacky humour on here, I am sure most of you did not miss it. Anyway, I need to attach this rotated photo otherwise it will affect my train of thought, if you know what I mean. Original joke...... The dog above me is actually the pet of the french man who climbs the side of tall buildings. It's just the camera angle makes it look like a parachute missing.. Front claws are very advantageous. You adhder, where's your patience? (starts clicking random stuff on internet, tapping foot, chewing lip, spinning chair around and much more scary, just now, actually notices the notepad on the wall and 2 other bits of paper moving around due to the fan which has been on for 1 hour) o.O

hi, seeing as i have conciously made this post on dog themes, i will just write my little story blog, well lately my 13 year old golden retriever has blankly refused to go out for his walkies, usually, we say come on oliver, were going to the fields and he comes slowly, cos of his arthiritis, but he manages to drag himself off the floor and get ready for his routine lead and harness thingy, but , for the past few weeks he has been reluctant to even show any enthusiam, until, we decided to take him out in the car and as soon as we opened the door, whoosh!!!! he tied to catapult himself into the car, he was shaking with excitement- anyway, not sure i know where i am going with this, but, just to say that dogs can get very bored of same old walks and a change can restore their sense of well-being,
my dog misses my mums old car, cos he could comfortably get in the boot, but now her new car has a matchbox boot and oliver is not a happy doggie:( well, if i think of anymore doggie ramblings- watch this space!!!!!!
good nite x
