Anyone here note that they have tinnitus, no matter how mild (ie. at night, when you can hear a pin drop, you have a constant ear noise? I do, but am not sure what exactly the cause is for me at the moment and I always forget about it at the doc's because I can't hear it (too low decibel) Just a quick start thread to peruse. www.kevinhogan.com/mytin.htmQUOTE 4. Stress- A. Shulman in the SPECT study, noted in 15 below, notes that, "the stress factor has been linked to cortisol accumulation resulting from a defect in its control of the hippocampus. Its accumulation has been linked to changes in mood which, over time, progress from anxiety to depression. The tinnitus patient may develop a memory not only for normal auditory stimuli but also, paradoxically, for the aberrant sound, that is tinnitus." Hundreds of studies cite excessive stress as related to tinnitus annoyance and suffering. Numerous studies cite excessive stress as highly correlated with tinnitus onset.

Andy
I worked with guy who had he was virtually deaf I'm bit deaf in one ear not sure if it was all the machines or the raves.
I heard of condition on radio slot where all these people were hearing these noises keeping them awake etc and a group of scientists did big study into all these cases.
They suspected that these people had like K9 hearing but after a couple of years study using high frequency Mic's and other methods they found no noise and eventually found that these people where just imagining and were offered therapy.
Can imagine thats real anoying i know when i have odd time it is.

Mine came on last year and I don't really listen to music much at all. In fact, I have a playlist but always forgot or don't really care to turn it on.
What's that saying.
Music soothes the savage soul/beast? awooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

Following illness I'm completely deaf in my left ear and I have tinitus alot. I use cross aides which are two hearing aids linked together with a wire. They dont help me hear any better as the audio nerve in the ear is completely dead, but it supposed to help me with locating sounds and tinnitus!
I find that some mornings the tinitus wakes me up and it makes me feel very scared and stressed at the time as it can come on very loud. Usually following stress or illness. Of course being in loud environments can cause it, and also stimulants such as coffee are supposed to cause it too, but I dont drink much coffee anyway. Alcohol is supposed to cause it too?!

Ryan, I considered the possibilities but........ I am totally clean on the drugs/alcohol front. Apart from some "medicinal" experiments on alcohol this year (don't like the taste or the effects and thought of being more random than normal and had about 30 pints since I was 18), I never touch anything so it's easier for me to rule things out in many ways. The last time I turned on any of my playlists was about a month ago and most times I don't bother. However, when I do listen to some music styles, I could leave some looping for er.......sometime lol. I once left the doom(game) remix soundtrack looping for oh, only about 4 hours..... Then the wing commander remix for hours and hours. It's only 2 mins long for god sake!!!!!!!!! (what a misfit eh? I must be from another planet...... o.O ) I can only hope that some things will be deduced soon. Your tinnitus issue probably makes you even more susceptible to the cause and effect of the unknown issues..... What is your doc doing about this torture?

What does my GP say about most things.......Not alot, lol!
Sorry about that, just very frustrated at the moment with my GP.
The tinitus I just have to put up with now, it's always there, and so long as it doesn't wake me up or come on really bad when I feel ill I'm ok, I have to be, I have been and no doubt will continue to put up with it!
Funny though, because when I start getting those weird attacks, it comes on very bad then too.
I cant believe how many things mentioned in the forum here seem to affect us ADHD sufferers, most of which I suffer with too but would never have thought it being associated with ADHD patients at all! It seems freaky doesn't it?
I think maybe I'll do a diary thread if thats allowed then people can get the picture of how everything intertwines in my life so far!

A diary thread is probably a good idea, but maybe by keeping it a non-verbose summary of the exact issues and future relief/cures etc, may help people to find a similarity and perhaps rule out possibilities in the future. The only problem is that a larger site may be better for this as there is more traffic and therefore a higher chance of finding similarities.... Alternatively, as you will no doubt remember what ails you before a hopefully occurring cure materialises, it will be perhaps better just to post before and after. That said, I realise now that it would probably take me a month or so to remember and clarify everything that affects me simply because I would forget when I really needed to remember. So, perhaps emailing a summary to yourself of before issues........then, when treatment materialises, you can update the email and post. Easier to keep track of. Just a thought. I have learned that nobody on here is going to stop you posting what you want, within reason, as they are all very understanding people!!!!!!!! Oh, and, is your tinnitus constant or not? If not, then why not? Have you looked into this? Is it a symptom of fibromyalgia or not? I don't think mine is consistent but it is certainly such a low level that I can only hear it at night, when there is silence. Sometimes, though it comes on stronger for no reason...... without a good cause, as I can just be sitting not doing anything that would change my body/brain balance....... ?

Hey again. Yea my tinitus is constant, it's just there are times that I dont really think about it therefore I dont notice it as much. I do if I've been out on my bike though or in nois places then go somewhere quiet. Mine got alot worse when I lost the hearing in the left ear, so I wouldn't know if it's an effect of fibro too. I'm guessing it can be though, fibro seems to have loads of things, well, it IS loads of things which grouped together is diagnosed as fibro. I still think it's a cop out, I mean cant someone just be unlucky to have lots of problems at the same time that could be mis-diagnosed as fibro? ?? Who knows. All I know that is I've been very unlucky healthwise n I feel like I'm slowly fading and getting worse esp this yr. BUt now I'm getting of the tinitus thing altogether. ***slaps wrist*** Sorry.
