My son (19) was discharged from CAMHS to his GP for shared care. The GP is refusing to prescribe without him going through the Adult ADHD service, which is pathetically underfunded. He took a year out after finishing his secondary education and is very concerned about starting university, without ADHD treatment. I understand that this situation is ‘normal’. What levers can we pull as he is effectively being prevented from pursuing further education, as the NHS is not providing support for his disability?

CAMHS should have supported his transition into the adult service at 17/18 and not discharged. Everything depends on how services are run in your area. Can the GP refer to adult services and continue to prescribe until he gets seen?

There was a gap in prescribing because the pediatrician handed off to the GP and then nothing happened. Now the GP not happy to restart without advice from the pediatrician, and the pediatrician is not responding to any contact. GP has referred to Adult ADHD service.
Moot point anyway as there are no meds available to prescribe due to shortages.
