I put 4-8 weeks, but that's because I went private. I'd probably still be waiting if I'd chosen the NHS route. Maybe you should put a private option too!

thanks pb, yeah perhaps should go private, I have faith in my doctor, she has written to my wiltshire pct, so fingers crossed, if not my doctor will go to the bath pct, there will be a war!! If I hear nothing in a month, then further action will be taken.
sorry misunderstood, how about seeing your mp?, roland has some great letters if you need help on this forum, I understand your with the somerset pct?

yeah ive kinda given up on getting it organised got as far as writing to my pct. im put off by having to take it so far even though ive had some great advice from this site i avoid all official meetings/comunication where possible im just not good at it i get to flustered,
meanwhile ive decided to sign up to college for an access course and sort though 6 years off jobs around the house so i can move closer and into another health athourity its a struggle sorting it out though it seems easier than meeting my mp so im forcing myself to get some done daily and thankfully had help to get organised from time to time, im relying on getting back up through student services when i start college and with luck a more understanding mental health team also it gives time for the NICE guidelines to come out though i cant help feeling im rushing things and setting myself up for a fall but i need to get on with making a change im not getting any younger at 35

Hi Misunderstood, If you need help getting attention from the NHS, you can ring ICAS (Independent Complaints Advocacy Service), it's a free service funded by the Government, and ICAS will fill in forms, write letters, and they told me that someone will even come to your house to help with letters and forms. The number for the South West Office is 0845 120 3783. Here's a link to a map of local offices: www.seap.org.uk/icas/localmap.html

I got the referral promptly when I asked my GP. I also got the appointment immediately but this was 6 month in advance as she was the only one in my area who is specialized in adult ADD and many people where queuing.

My GP was pretty switched on but was unsure how I would get to see a specialist. He said I would have to see the local psychiatrist in all likelyhood. I got the appointment two mnths later after a few nagging calls to the docs secretary. The psych then contacted the doc after a couple of months max with a comprehensive report stating I needed a referal to a specialist. Luckily there was a local specialist I wasn't aware of and I had an appointment soon after. Due to having gathered all my evidence and passing it to each psych I only had to wait 4 wks for my diagnosis after that. I would say it took in all 6-7 months. I took this time to learn as much as I could about the condition, its effects and treatment. Once you get a dx half the battle is won. Just knowing is a help.
