I notice they aren't taking comments on the article ;D Wonder if the mail get many people requesting "offensive comment removal" ? Everyone seems to miss the point.....if anyone is to believe the premise that children meeting lower thresholds for diagnosis are being incorrectly labelled with learning disabilities. Then you must believe they have been incorrectly shipped off to their medical professionals by the educational system.... isn't this clearly the result of bad teaching/a narrow inflexible curriculm?

hi ya, i was upset and annoyed when i read this, i think you will find ( i may be wrong) that it is from 2007 ! and all the other article's after this are slightly more positive with regards to ADHD, that may be why you can no longer comment on it. but if its not then that is completely unfair that we are not able to have our say

Ok my first point here is why do the Mail publish such an article and the present google adverts below it selling ADHD get well products? So by the double standards operating here we can safely take the article with a pinch of salt.
My second point is that I agree with the respondent in that the proffessor wants to make a name for herself and what evidence does she provide to back up her theory and it is just a theory whereas ADHD has seroius research evidence to show that ADHD exists at all ages.
Finally the article seems to brand ADHD sufferers as abnormal when in fact this is far from the case.
There is a theory around that humans fall into two catagories. One being the hunter and the other the farmer.
The hunter is built with the ADHD trait and gets a buzz from the chase, hyperfocussing. That's why when the ADHD type has achieved the result (the kill) they feel down because there is no hunt anymore.
The farmer is what society calls normal. This type takes more sedentry roles such as desk based or factory production roles and is compliant with the popular needs.
ADHD types are often high achievers and risk takers. Without this type the human society would not have advanced very far.

Hi all I was going to send this comment in reply to an article in the independant www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/carol-sarler-hey-counsellor-leave-those-kids-alone-1884328.html but then realised I would have to sign in, doh! Why does the press always get it wrong? Are the suicides of bridgend OK now? Why does britain accept drudgery so easily? If we understood and appreciated life better would we not be able to help countries like haiti better? Why is ADHD still being classed as a self imposed condition? Are people from happy backgrounds immune to Alzheimer's, Dementia and brain damage? Part of being unhappy is falling to rock bottom, climbing back up again and trying to put things right for yourself and for others. It is not about throwing your arms up in surrender and accepting something that is wrong. People who are a little bit unhappy do not get diagnosed with depression. People dont get depression from the normal hardships of life. The hardships of life in britain are seriously abnormal. Is ignorance really bliss? I think this is a very cheap article and practises the art of telling people what they want to hear. It makes no effort to understand the mindset of people who have genuine and very serious illness. All that is pesent is the mindset of the 'journalist' which just so happens to match that of the dimwitted reader who buys this stuff. And if you are unhappy about that well....... I didnt really think this through anyways. But its a shame to write something then let it go to waste so I'll post it on here. Freewill

That article says that 1 in 10 kids between the age of 10 and 15 declared themselves to be unhappy on an anonymous survey? Well, duh! Its about the age, surely, that they have to start taking responsibility for their own happiness and entertainment? When they are younger I'm sure their happiness is more heavily parent-linked?
The real tragedy is the teenagers unable to pursue happiness for themselves because they lack the tools/support.
