Here's some information I took from the Intellectual Property Office website: Patents protect the processes that make things work Trade marks protect logos that distinguish goods and services Designs protect the look of three-dimensional shapes Copyright protects material only when it is written down or recorded Here's a link to more information: www.ipo.gov.uk/whyuse.htm

hi diCaprio - i have a design idea which im currently working on, using a website called elance - there are non disclaimer forms that the engineers/designers sign but as they are from all over the world how water tight are they and how can i protect my design (its a design for a product)

I found "Patents, Registered Designs, Trade Marks & Copyright for Dummies" useful. Not encouraging but useful; It injected a healthy note of realism to my dreams.
