Hi - due to go back to get diagnosis, first line of treatment is meds then they said counselling... my partner is being assessed too - ok if they dont offer adhd counsellors in our area (being diagnosed out of area) if we either had individual couselling or couple counselling - his psychiatrist mentioned relate.. how is that going to work if they have zero training in adhd? we have both had counselling before - whats the options? we def need counselling right? whats the point if they are not trained?
Has anyone any views on this?
Cheers
Amanda

That sounds a bit pointless - sending you to relate for ADHD counselling!? What area do you live in?
In south London I think everyone goes through the Maudsley - that's what I'm waiting for at the moment. It doesn't seem that you can get any medication prescribed without going there. I would hope that the psychiatric help that you get after that prescription is up to scratch and they don't just insist that you wait months to see a qualified professional, then see them once, get some drugs and then you're on your own.
