Hi, I need some advice as to what to take with me to the docs tomorrow to get some medication. I was diagnosed over two years ago, but havent been prescribed yet. I took the CBT route at first then I had a baby, so now I've finished breastfeeding and dont have the time or money for CBT, I'd like to try some meds. I need them more than ever now, for my sons sake aswell as mine! I'll take my psychologists report, and the relevant bit of the NICE guidelines. Does anyone have a link to it? I've looked all over the site and can't find it, its probably staring me right in the face!! Also any advice as to what medication to get, in case the doc has no clue, I'm not holding out any hopes! Thanks, Misfit

I suspect that you will need to see a specialist again to get meds, the GP usually only takes over prescribing them once a specialist has sorted out your dose and what brand/type etc works best for you and you are settled on the meds. Did you get seen by an NHS psyc? I would see what the GP says but you probably need to ask for a referral. Sorry if thats not what you want to hear, but the NICE guidelines say similar I think. Good luck.

Its possible you might get the GP to give you some on a short term basis whilst you wait to be seen, but its not usual. Depends on the GP.

My GP said he coouldn't prescribe even with the letter from the psychologist who diagnosed me right in front of him. I had to be reffered to a psychiatrist to get the meds, so please dont feel too abd if your GP says the same. It's not like we know, I wasn't even told at first why I had to see the psychiatrist in addition to Tim who diagnosed me. I think I found out from here, and from Tim himself! I hope whatever happens it goes along the right way for you anyway hon

thanks for your replies guys, no miracles today, i'm affraid. He's referred me to someone else, although he couldn't remember his name or where he was based. But he says he does prescribe to some people but it was initiated by this guy, who ever he is. Anyway I'm sure I'll find out soon, hopefully in the next year, I know how these things go! I gave him my psychologist report, then he asked my symptoms and I went on for ages so he said, 'tell you what I'm running out of time, could you write them out for me and drop them in at reception?' What i should of said is that its all in the report but i didn't so I wrote a letter including everything i could thinnk of to help the referral, so fingers crossed!
