Hi all... i need some advice i am at wits end need some help fast...I got diagnosed 2 weeks ago in birmingham on the nhs.. my partners son is being assessed for adhd and it looks like my partner has it - we got referred on the nhs we had to push this because of funding he got assessed friday... this is the summary we have no early info he said no to adhd after the folowing:
History scetchy from before 7, birth mother died, father was never on the scene so we are stuggling to get a validation for early years. Currently on diazepam, refusing anti depressants they make him worse. We saw the same consultant i saw on friday, he was 40 mins late not us we managed to be early , focused on his feelings re: a bad relationship his mother had when he was 3-7 suggested it could be this, didnt look into anything about now, behaviours, difficulties etc.. we think he has what used to be known as add.. struggles with motivation etc... said he does not think its adhd even though he scores higher than me on the written critera - we feel this is wrong and was not looked at properly, we had pals involved and they have written by psychology about maybe an 'agenda' and 'he seemed articulate' its no agenda we need help thats all, we are extremely unhappy about and will take further.. the key symptoms are:
Before 7: this is all we have before then - do you require more info if you see him? we are stuggling to get this and he cant remember properly - he got brain freeze in the appointment the other day badly and we dont feel like he was assessed properly at all..
Temper problems
Felt different
Bullied
Didnt want to go to school
Nightmares and sleeping problems
Remembers low sugar levels used to literally shake and always had to be doing something
Kicked out of cubs for hitting someone with a welly
Loud
Disruptive
Family - cousin literally used to stand rocking when child physically hyperactive now cant be still has to be doing something, temper problems, blaming etc etc (he is worse than me!!) .. Auntie shows adhd traits, so does nan and grandfather possibly, so do another 2 cousins.
Now and since school:
Was in the army - 2 years went well would have excelled then got honary discharge
Trouble with the police before army
Dropped out of school - hated it
Drink, drug history (not now), gambling
Anger and temper problems
Remembering - always forgetting appointments etc etc
Losing things ALL the time (our house is chaos
Attention to detail not the best makes mistakes
Hyperfocus and priortising
Procrastination (the amount of unfinished rooms at our house is unbelievable)
No brakes - doesn't think before speaking sometimes quite cutting, when temper goes no brakes
Prone to addictions and high stimuli - moves from one thing to the next, bored easily
Trouble winding down, brain on the go all the time but struggles to prioritise or do
Stomach problems / sleeping problems
Fidety feet
Depression, panic attacks
Impatient
Interupts others without thinking cant wait turn
Problems with authority figures - bosses when worked for others (self employed now)
Intense need to be right
1 Marriage breakdown (her mother/callums grandmother is diagnosed bi polar - he shows no signs of this) and another failed relationship both traumatic (2nd child with other mother also bored extemely easily etc, highly intelligent - girl aged 8)
When we argue we talk at each other not to each other (we are working on this its improving)
We are concerned and need help fast - he cant stay on diazepam, he can work better on these but our relationship etc and time with family is badly affected - we have 2 businesses that have struggled badly through what we have been going through - its the incorrect medication and looking at dopamine etc he definitely shows strong signs of having a deficiency in this area.
What can we do where can we go? its going to cost a fortune private right? We are looking at having his son assessed private because the waiting list at cams is awful - we think we have the answer, we feel like its discrimination we just want help i keep feeling like crying i am so frustrated and upset about it all .. i broke down in the assessment, my partner walked out i stayed and said you haven't even looked at present behaviours he is like me there are no brakes, and all the above this seems so unfair just because its not blaringly obvious like with me i really dont know what to do? :-(
