Ok, this is going to sound a little 'out there' but I was wondering if anyone else is able to do this or not.
Basically, when I wake up in the night, or during the day when I want to check the time on my phone, before I press the button to check the time I 80% of the time know exactly what time it is. I even test myself with this, and will get it to the minute - even if I have been asleep or away from any source of time for a few hours. I used to be a little weary of it, but it just makes me laugh now. I did it yesterday and it was 8.12 exactly and I said the time before I pressed it. The times when it doesn't work, are generally if I try to think of what time it could be. But if I just go to do it and say whatever comes to mind, 8 times out of ten it's right.
Has anybody else heard of this?
W.

Phil...I think someone may have already got the patent for that skill...but all the same, you keep up the good work.
Ok, so I know it sounds completely mad...and there may be some neurological explanation but all the same I promise you it is not a lie. I have googled it and cant find any info but i am going to see some prof's at my uni and see what they think. Though in all fairness, it's hardly a skill. it has no real use. just weird.

I've heard of this before. I heard my Great-grandfather talk about it with a family friend when I was a child. He used to be able to decide what time to wake up. Never set an alarm clock and would most often wake at that exact point, his friend could do similar. The general conclusion among the family was that it was a skill people had as a hangover to the war and the trenches.
Cant imagine that information helps you much. But does suggest people hav access to some internal or environmental clock under the right/wrong circumstances?

Chry...that is strange that you say that as I don't really use an alarm anymore...whenever if did, or if I do now, I ALWAYS wake up about two minutes before...doesn't matter whether I set it in the middle of the night (if going on holiday) or normal time.

I know it's not the same, but I'll often get my phone out of my pocket, or pick it up, and a text will come through, or come through just as I out it back down. Weird, esp when you are thinking about the person that has text you before it happens, lol. I get other things too, like I will need so many pins for summat, and I'll come to finishing it, n I'll have either got the exact ammount of pins, which are picked up handfulls at a time, or I may be only one or two out.
Same with other things....I'll pick I dunno, certain things up, n in my head pops a number, and you can bet that when I count them, coz I'm curious about the number, it will be spot on, or if not, very, very close. I've thought I heard my Mam once too even though I was at home, I dunno what it was, but her calling my name came into my head. I knew right away to call her, n when I did she was in a bad state and wanted to do herself in.
All very freaky stuff, could be coincidence, but either ways, it's still scarily weird!

These things are not strange to me as they happen all the time ! I phone people maybe once a year to say hi and they say that they were just about to ring me ! I cant wear watches as they stop working ! Am allergic to metal so tried Swatch watches for a while but had to give up altogether ! Electrical equipment used to always break down when I was growing up and I still have problems with computers at times (touch hairy wood ) ! I get electric shocks from lots of surfaces at times and also people !This has lessened in the last year or so ! I try to ground myself which means meditating with my feet on the ground and imagining tree roots growing from my feet going down in to the earth ! Works when I can remember to do it !

I often wake up just before the alarm goes off - used to wonder whether it was perhaps a click or some other sound as the mechanical clock reached the wake up time, but same still happens with the digital radio.

Wb, I met someone in Gateshead who could do this. Everyone used to ask him the time constantly and he'd always get it exactly right.
I can do this when someone asks me 'which direction is north?' If I think about it, I get it wrong but if I do it without thinking, I'm spot on. (I used to do a lot of rambling and everyone had compasses - and they used to test me.).

... and I forgot - the most obvious weird skill that I have! How could I forget?
I can find four leaf clovers. I have hundreds of them pressed in books. I once spotted one from the car while we were driving along and I made my boyfriend stop while I picked it. He still can't believe it.
I thought it was something to do with my brain and pattern recognition but the last four that I've found have been when I've bent down to what I've thought was a four leafer, but it turns out to be a plain old three leafer - but there's a four leaf one tucked under it or in the grass right next to it!
My brother says there must be lots of them but I've had other people looking for them in the same spots when I've found them and no one else finds them.
It started a couple of years ago when my garden, when I lived in London was full of them (everyone could find one in that garden) and I could spot them from the kitchen window. Since then I find them all the time.
Luck or my brain? My brain, I believe. Still, it's freaky.

I am really good at guessing the time too. I wondered if it was because I was a bit fixated with time as a child, and sort of practised myself into it.?? Barkley thinks ADHD really affects concept of time...

Has anybody else heard of this? W. You'll find lots of stories (I can do this myself when in a routine), or people waking up just before the alarm goes off, even if they set it at different times, don't check the clock before going to bed or have been on a bender the night before. Most animals and possibly plants have very good body clocks.

Troo. When I lost my watch (see thread on losing thing for more fun with forgetfulness) I did eventually get used to telling the time for myself and it worked pretty well. Punctuality is overrated, anyway. I yearn for the gentler times of sundials and hourglasses....

Hello W, I so get where you are coming from though am not able to tell the time to the exact minute as you do. Basically I have not worn a watch for 15 years as I do not need to. I am not sure whether this skill is related to ADHD or not. My advice is to go with it and make the most of it. ;-)

Yes I do exactly the same thing. in addition i always wake up exactly on the hr and always exactly at 6am. and "i'm not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy!!! And thats not all, i repeatedly have very accurate De Ja Vous. i can tell people exactly what they are going to say b4 they say it (think i may have left myself open to some humourous remarks there!!!) I recommend reading "Realization Theory", cant remember who its by, ill have a look when i get home, also any books on NLP (Nueral Linguistic Programming)or TA (Transactional Analysis). Basically, it is believed (by some) that our subconcience has the ability to connect to a greater mass intelligence or a "fountain of wisdom".It works on the thoery that our DNA contains information from many "existences", past and future!!! It is also believed that it is possible to see through other peoples eyes, so basically, someone else is looking at a clock (in real time) and you can see it. i believe that ADD (ADHD in my case) is a gift and we are more suscepible (spelling) to these experiences.Phew!! I got it all out!!Hope this helps.

Ok another possible explanation, ive just read the reply from crysalis (spelling). I'm an Electronic Engineer and i know that electricity lets out a B field measured in Henries (would you believe it). I suppose it could be possible that your brain in some way is picking up the pulses generated by the field and has some how tuned into it, and by simply subconciesly counting (How many ADDers do you know who count things??) the pulses the brain will know what the time is??
