Chaos Lily reporting in!
Well...got there late - not a good start. Pulled in to the hospital car park at 5mins past appointment time and it was so packed out in there that I rang the department to ask them to let the psychiatrist know I was in the car park but struggling to park. After an argument with a guy who was standing in an empty space wiating for his wife to park there I finally (15minutes later) got parked and wandered in 25mins late. Gah. Turns out he was about to leave for an appointment elsewhere when I rang, so just as well I did. Anyway...
I have already been diagnosed both in Cardiff this time last year and then by this psychiatrist (Dr Jha - not technically an ADHD specialist but the only one in Lincolnshire with a specific interest in it) in early October. I've had blood tests taken and this appointment was supposed to be to get a prescription assuming the tests were ok.
What actually happened was that the tests were ok (yay) but he'd written to my GP in early October to ask them to conduct an ECG to ensure my heart was ok to have stimulants. They never let me know and therefore the tests were never done. So I sat there while he told he that he was on holiday from Friday and wouldn't be back until January and quietly screamed inside. I told him, pretty plainly, that I had hoped that it would be sorted out on this appointment and, since he wasn't prepared to prescribe without the ECG, asked him what we could do to make it faster. I told him I was prepared to travel wherever he wanted just to get it done. So...he asked me to go for an ECG at the hospital tomorrow and asked me to ask them to get the report to him ASAP and then (after lots of pleading looks from me) agreed to post out the prescription if he got the results in time and speak to my GP. He added that I may get lucky if I went today to cardiology and asked nicely but he doubted it.
So - trotted off to cardiology, told them I couldn't get anywhere until January if they couldn't fit me in, begged, flattered and went doe eyed and finally got in (not feminine wiles gents - this was to a woman!). When I asked them to send it to Dr Jha asap they said I could take it myself if I wanted. So, I did. Handed in the report to the Mental Health receptionist who said that Dr Jha would get it tomorrow. So fingers crossed I'll get a prescription through the post soon!
He's going to start me on Ritalin (or a generic) 5mg/day for a few days, then up it to 10mg and so on and so forth until we get a level that works.
A bonkers lady sang me a lovely song in the reception area too!
