I think I might empathise too much, but I assume that's part of my inability to control my emotions too well. I get quite 'infected' by others' moods, and can't detach. I also don't always get it right, either - bit like finishing others' sentences, but wrong. So I'll assume that something is going to be bad, or good, and feed an 'appropriate' empathic response, only to find I'm completely wrong! I guess keeping my mouth shut would help, but that's tricky..... I also get v upset by gory movies, but I can watch myself being stitched up with clinical interest. Weird. I know what you mean about other people's moods. if people around me seem upset or angry i get that way too and it can ruin my whole day! i get very upset by horror films.... i watched the omen once and it upset me for nearly two weeks! i was terrified lol.

Not great at empathy, have to pretend all the time, it's easy enough though. I can sometimes imagine what it must be like to loose someone; I was very upset when my dog died. I also have to pretend babies are cute and go aw when their mom's bring them in to show them off; I am so false, efin can't stand babies, boring things that cry, poo and be sick.

I have no empathy. Never have. If people die, I get quite excited thinking about all the change that it might spawn. When I was 12 and my parents told me (very tenderly, I think they'd been working up to how to break it to me) that they were divorcing, I remember grinning from ear to ear and asking if we going to get a new house and all the other exciting changes. Sadly, there were very few, but I did get a bigger room which I painted black with a red ceiling.
If I had any empathy, I would probably feel bad about my lack of empathy, but I don't. I do realise this must make me seem like a cold and heartless sociopath, but I'm not, honest guv.

Yup Raven, def no empathy. Think I have a little bit more than you, but yeah I have imagined what would happen if ppl died and whether it would be good for me. Then maybe thats a coping mechanism cause a lot if important ppl let me down as a kid. I would def say you are a good candidate for a diagnosis of aspergers.

lol, weeeeelll I do only wear black with the occasional bit of grey or white for some added colour. ;D I stopped wearing the black cowboy hat, skull boostraps, spiked leather fingerless gloves, etc. ten odd years ago though, so now I'm more Russell Brand than Robert Smith.
Regarding AS, I score quite high - 34, normal is 17 max - on the ASD screening test and I've been told by a psych that I'm probably on the autism spectrum, so maybe.

The same genetics are involved in ASD and ADHD so there will be similar traits! As for aspergers picture rain man on a super bike! ;D

boo Er...Thanks? It's a self portrait taken in less room than you could swing a rat, with just a single overhead Canon 580 EX II flash head. I took it for my (increasingly less) anonymous blog ( www.hidinginahoodie.com). Here's a bigger version:

Love the pic Raven... totaly my kinda thing ! I have very little empathy also, I really do try hard to empathize when ppl always come to me with there woes.. but i end up thinking... just get up and get on with it... i dont expect others to 'fluff me up' when things go wrong so its hard for me to ...
But i wonder if thats ADHD or just the way I was brought up... does anyone else every remember getting told after a good hiding "your'll get another one for crying if u dont shut up" I laugh about it now, but its really hard not to feel the same when i see others getting emotional/crying... (not my kids though I might add.. I am soft as putty when they are teary)
