I'm still fluffing about on this ADHD inattentive possibility that I think I have. However, I don't self-medicate at all, does this exclude me from inattentiveness? If you are not inattentive but you somehow managed without self-meds, PLEASE do tell.......

I am not sure which type of adhd I have as I have never been told . I used to massively self medicate through drugs and booze but after a year on concerta have mansged to knock it on the head and been clean as to speak for a month now. I found that my cannabis use was to mainly calm me down and make me normal . I think that people find me too full on and in your face now that I have stopped though , so not sure if it is a good thing or not

i haven't been diagnosed but i definitely tick all the boxes for inattentive.
i don't self medicate at all. i'm considered odd (by NTs) in that i don't drink, don't smoke, i don't even like coffee. the drinking is a personal choice. i just don't see any benefits. the smoking, i've wanted to start but the thing that's actually stopped me (apart from the fact i don't look old enough to buy cigarettes, so i physically can't unless i carried ID which i don't) is that i know i'd be a chain smoker in no time. when i find something i like and that works for me, i keep on doing it. so that's why, apart from the fact that it's obv bad for you. the coffee, i just don't like the taste of it, simple as that.
my only thing would be chocolate. when i'm stressed i sometimes crave chocolate. and junk food actually. my diet is really not very good. i eat what i want when i want it.
a few years ago i started taking kalms, and before i knew it i was taking them all throughout the day. then i had therapy and no longer needed them. i could do with them again now but i know i'd end up taking several every day again. they're herbal so it doesn't matter, there's no ill effects but yeh.
what i actually do when i'm really stressed is listen to hypnosis cds =]

Haven't been diagnosed but can relate to the inattentive more than anything else. Self medicate, with weed, but am not liking it, or seeing many of benefits anymore. Don't like alcohol too much, and wouldn't say i medicate with it, but it certainly does help to remain appearing and acting more normal. So i don't think i am technically self medicating with either because that assumes something about it is workable!!!!

I'm undiagnosed, but pretty sure I'm inattentive type. Have never smoked, used to be completely wired on coffee until the palpitations got too bad (I have a minor heart defect), used to drink in an average sort of way but much less now as I twigged that it takes v little to have me run off at the mouth...I do love carbs, though, with a passion. I think if I'd ever got near coke, I'd be a big fan by now, so just as well I've led a sheltered life. I get through work on the adrenaline that kicks in when I'm invariably late delivering something, but it's exhausting and that, and my general life-chaos led to the stress that ultimately brought me here.

I've voted assuming that by drugs you mean the illegal variety. I used to as a teenager but at the point just before no return, I returned and haven't touched it since. As others have suggested, I know I'd be hooked in an instant and that scared the crap out of me. Similarly, I drank a lot from 13yrs and then when I was 17 I found myself not drinking on a Sunday 'just to prove I could'. So, with this worrying me a little, plus other things like getting ratarsed and waking up with god knows who god knows where and getting a motorbike I wanted to ride, and as an all or nothing kind of girl (just like most of us here) I quit for about 10 - 11 years. It meant I could go out just as much and then ride into the night for hours! Ah, bliss! I do smoke though. Damn it. I've given up a couple of times back have gone back, stupidly, to being a smoker. Again, this wasn't on your list and I'm not sure you meant tobacco as drugs. Um, and a bit of a love/hate relationship with diet tablets and strange supplements (L-Cartinine and the like)....maybe I ticked the wrong box after all... :/

I've been diagnosed inattentive - never been interested in drugs - just too plain square to be interested or tempted ;D!!!! and didn't socialise or move in circles that used them (or if they did I never noticed

Just a little bit. I used to LOVE amphetamines, MDMA and Cocaine, and for a couple of years in my early 20's was either taking them or feeling the after effects. I never really made a conscious decision to quit, just kinda lost interest after a while. I wouldn't have ever referred to my habit as an addiction either, or even as a problem. Drugs were just a serious hobby for a while, or at least thats how they seemed. I'm not so sure that if I had to quit I could have done, but there never was a reason to at the time.
As for alcohol, I try and avoid that as much as possible these days. I never felt compelled to use it, but when I did I often drank to excess. I think this was down to a combination of trying to mask poor social skills and getting a bit bored when sat around in the pub, so my drink always went down a little too fast.
These days I try to fill my time with other mood altering activities, but more positive ones, such as running, martial arts and weight training. Seems to be working so far:)

Diagnosed with combined ADHD. Definitely inattentive. What was I saying? Oh yes, definitely inattentive. Had extremely bad experience being force fed drugs by psychiatrists which put me off for life. Never tried any illegal ones as far as I'm aware(!). Just wasn't interested. It seems, though, that things like coke are good for ADHD so it's probably just as well! I would've been flying higher than a kite and probably wound up in jail because the impulsiveness.
Cheers,
