Haven't watched the vid at your link, but on that basis, there was a brilliant game called Sanitarium a good few years back which was similarly atmospheric and story-based, and also currently there's Alan Wake, which is very cinematic in its story telling.

Okay, watched the trailer on youtube. Looks very freaky, but not as scary as Alan Wake IMO. Sanitarium was, as you rightly say, completely different (3rd person isometric 3D for a start), but very, very bizarre with all the deformed children and the circus freaks etc.

He does indeed, the catch with Alan Wake is that you can't hurt anything by default because everything is protected by the shadows which form the basis of the game. You have to burn the shadows off with torches, flares, etc to be able to hurt anything. Everything is dark and jumpy and the whole thing gives me the heebie jeebies!

I'll add it to my list of games that stress me out.

Ha, add Bioshock as well if you haven't played it. Scares the bejesus out of me that one.

Don't know about alan wake?, but amnesia has limited latern oil, tinderboxes (tindercylinders lol) and no weapons. That makes it a little bit stressful when you have to study the darkness with barely lit rooms and wondering when the next event will occur lol........... eek.
There were games before it and I suppose I should have started at the beginning lol.......what a thought....start at the beginning, feet first.

I can't deal very well with games where tindahboxes! are needed, torches run out of oil too ofte, it's always dark and I'm never sure when the monstahs are going to appear.
I'm left disturbed. I even stopped playing it yesterday because I could not face the unknown and the area was so damn dark I needed to light four corners of the large area. brrrrrrrr

I agree that you can start to feel invincible behind a trusty shotgun, a la Resident Evil 4 (sooo good! The Regenerators rasping gurgles as they ambled towards you were well freaky), but Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are fantastic, gory survival fests.
I think I needed to give Alan Wake a bit longer - it felt a bit repetitive and too much like a tv series rather than a game. I heard it gets better after chapter 4 though.
The Silent Hill and Project Zero series are also very psychologically creepy. The Japanese are excellent at that stuff.
