It great news that you are organising a Brighton meeting, I had been planning to orgainse a Brighton support group, but it looks like you have beaten me to it! I have recently started treatment and I was amazed that they did not offer more help. The last time I went to the Brighton clinic I spoke to the staff at the mental health drop-in center who said that they currently do not offfer any services for ADHD but are happy to support a new ADHD group if we want to organise a group ourself. Apparently there are over 100 people with ADHD in the area, and it may be possible for the clinic to write to each patient to inform them of a new support group. I am happy to help you organise a local group and will mesg you my details. It would be great to see a Brighton and Hove support group start

This is a breakthrough!
If we could get notices or leaflets into every hospital we'd reach a huge number of people that we don't at the moment. Keep us informed about it, especially if you have any tips or encounter problems along the way, so we can use the info to approach other ones.
As it stands, I don't think the Maudsley even has a poster up.

Hi tigger here. Wicked meeting on wed at brighton. Its amazing to see how diffently ppl act from having adhd. First ever group ive been to. I felt so much better the next day.when i saw my shrink i asked for talk therapy. It was nice to meet some like minded ppl to. I have taken a flyer and i have been told that i can muck around with it and make it bigger and brighter.also i will be able to get a large quantity printed for free. All of the chemists and doc practices and alike have said i may put a flyer in there places. This is very positive for us as we need recognision. Plz ppl come to the next one if you can tigger boing boing boing lol

Good meeting indeed!
It was amazing to meet other people who have ADHD. Even though we had just met each other I really felt a sense of comradery. I would really recommend going to a support group to meet other like minded people.
We talked about with the plans going forward to set up a local support group for the Sussex Area. The local mental health drop-in at Buckingham Road Brighton have agreed to provide a room for a ADHD support group and help publicise the group. Dr Critchley's East Sussex ADHD clinic have also agreed to write to the 150+ people on their books to tell them about the group. We also discussed building a website to publicise the group. All in all, good first meeting.

hey there i wondered if the support group is open to non ADHD partners? My boyfriend has ADHD (we have only been together a year and a half, he was diagnosed around 3 years ago) and although i know a little of the condition, and im starting to educate myself more now, i do struggle with some of the symptoms he has ie the distraction, excessive talking, not being able to plan ahead etc etc and its so easy for me to get angry with him, which i dont want to do, id like to understand a bit more, and i wondered if attending a group might be beneficial to me where i can hear other people's experiences, and maybe get some outside advice? Dont get me wrong, we do talk when things arise, but sometimes i find it hard as it feels like im pointing out his 'bad points' if you like, and thats actually one of the things i dont know how to approach very well, and usually ends up in an arguement :s let me know what you think to a non ADHd person attending thanks

Coming along to the group and meeting everyone was really helpful to me even after this one meeting ive started to understand a few things more and be able to respond to my partner in a more positive way, thanks to everyone who let me chat and ask questions.
