Make bulk batches of stuff and freeze it in freezer bag portions. Carrot and lentil soup is dead easy, filling and cheaper than chips!

Chop all your veg - swede in smallish cubes as it takes longer to cook than the rest. If you like you can soften the leeks in a little bit of oil first before adding the other veg. Chuck the other veg in the pan (make it a big one!) and throw in a stock cube and some herbs. Experiment with these - if using dried you won't need more than a good teaspoon each of 2 or 3 different ones. Sage is nice, but quite distinctive. I like plenty of black pepper too! Fill the pan with water so it just covers the veg, and leave to bubble away gently for as long as it takes (at least an hour), checking it and stirring every now and again. You could also add a handful of lentils or barley or whatever to give it a bit more substance. If you're a carnivore you can brown off some meat (sausages?) with the leeks at the beginning in a bit of oil before adding the rest (I know nothing about ths stuff as I'm veggie but this is what I believe you do!) Also it's nice to substitute some of the water with a couple of tins of tomatoes - they're nice and cheap - and then italian herbs like basil & oregano go well - oh and garlic - garlic makes everything tste better!! (imho!) If it's too watery at the end of cooking stir in some instant gravy granules to thicken it up. Btw, if you hadn't worked this out by now, I'm no Delia Smith! Good luck

I went shopping took a list and still managed to not get some of the stuff! They was selling salad packs off in asda for 10p each, I reconise the one berry to be tomato's but I don't know if it is lettuce of some description or spinach? And I don't know whether the green thing in the pack is a baby cucumber? Courgette, or a gurkin? But what I can't use I can feed to the horses! And I got about a dozen or more tomatoes for 30P! I was going to make a big batch of baloneys sauce got stake mince onions sauce mushrooms ect so I can bag it freeze it and have it with pasta or chips! But one of the things on my list I did not get is freezer bags I can cook chilli too but the powders in asda are really bunk I've tried them before and I did not think at the time to get fresh! It was a hit and run mission I hate supermarkets at the best of times
