Hi, I'm new to this and not sure if this'll get posted. I've been reading alot of messages on the forum and it helps. I have a son with ADHD, he's over 18 and its been a nightmare trying to get help for him. I'm told I /we have done everything we can for him and its up to him to ask for help. I believe he has in one form or another but he doesn't feel anybody understands. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\i think I know how he feels as I feel the same everytime I've tried. . He doesn't know I'm writting this and I hve to respect his privacy so can't really discuss much. But if I say he's been misdiagnosed / undiagnosed you'll understand what we've been through. It is frustrating and we do get mad with him and he does seem to understand, well on good days he does, bad days he doesn't and impulse comes into play. We have recognition, meds are being experimented with but it seems explanations so far haven't been given. I feel very angry at the moment and very down. I'm sorry I can't tell all but just to say this is 1 parent who doesn't give up easily. I feel and understand for those with ADHD and for those who live with it. I'll say cheerio for now. I looked at all the symbols cause I wanted to put one in but I think I've felt all the emtions today and can't make my mind up which 1 I am.

Hi duckie! Have you spotted we already have a Goose?
Don't give up - if you feel he's been misdiagnosed, ask for a second opinion.
You don't whether you, too, have ADHD? Either way, parenting an ADHD kid really can be a challenge and there are a few of us who really understand that.
Welcome!

Thanks for reply. Second opinion was asked for by me but wasn't given as he wasn't asking for it due to the fact he didn't want to be different. he's been accepted as having ADHD but I'm not sure if they really understand what it REALLY means. But hay! I only have to live with it and they have letters after their name so they obviously know best.

Sorry, ooshiny forgot to ans question. Don't think I have it, just general nuttiness. I think a little bit of nuttiness helps one survive. Smiley face should be here but can't find icon.

Hey duckie......welcome ;D I feel like we have something in common....other than our feathers ! There are parents on here whose children have been diagnosed with adhd, they recognise the symptoms...and realise they may be too. So it's definitely worth a thought....might help your son if he sees you're going through the same process. Anyway, ask away I hope we can be of some help. Keep in there, chin / beak up

Hi Goosey, Tried putting smiley face on for you but it keeps coming up with a symbol not a face, I'll get there in the end. Good job I'm a patient body, well most of the time. I do have some of the symptons I've read about, mainly the one about always being late although getting better and talking too much. But thats just me and I'm ok with that apart from when I make stupid mistakes but I wouldn't be human if I didn't make any. My son knows I'm here for him and that I do try to understand even though I sometimes get it wrong. I just find it frustating when talking to the people who are suppose to be helping and they don't come across as understanding the condition or those who say they know but haven't convinced me they know. I suppose alot of adders out there feel the same. Quack Quack
