Hi
We've arranged our 1st meeting for the North East.
Monday 16th May 7-9pm Brandling pub in Brandling Village, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. It's open to those who have been dx, those who think Adhd may explain their difficulties, partners and family members.
We've already got 3 people which is fine but would love to have others come along. You'll recognise us all as we'll all be carrying our Adhd books!!

I'm looking forward to what I hope will be the first of many such meetings, tonight.
For anyone that is going, I have red hair, and will be wearing jeans and a tan leather jacket. And yes, I will be clutching an ADHD book!

Me to and I'm sure it will be the 1st of many.
I'm white haired (yep the real stuff!) and I haven't quite chosen my book yet!
See you later.

We did it!!
Magicgal, Monopad and myself all got to the right place , at the right time - pity I left my book on the kitchen bench!
Great to meet you both. Time flew and we didn't get through half of what we wanted to say or ask each other questions. However we have set another meet up for the 20th June at the Collingwood Arms, just along from the Brandling in Jesmond, (Brandling too noisy even though they turned the music down) 7pm-9pm.
Any others on here from the North East most welcome.

Hi Annie & Magicgal:
I think we got off to a great start and I really enjoyed meeting you both for the first time.
Time really did speed by and I came away with loads of questions (I should have written them down!) and thoughts about how to help with moving things along.
I'm looking forward to the next meeting in June at the Collingwood.
Questions: do either of you happen to know exactly how many people have been diagnosed in this area since the Newcastle clinic became established? Do you think we should design a poster to put up in the clinic and elsewhere to encourage people to come along to future meetings?
Thanks again for meeting up.

PS It turned out that the opposite side of the street to the Brandling is a residents only parking zone between 7 and 8 pm and other stupid times of the day! I sure hadn't expected a parking ticket at that time of night! However, as it turned out, I was so happy after the meeting I had a delayed reaction with regard to making an angry call to the Newcastle City Council Mafia ... until right now that is!!

What a pain with the parking ticket - maybe we need to find a pub with a big parking space for our next meeting but in the meantime we'' stick with the Collingwood 20th June !!
A poster in the Collinwood clinic would be a good start - have you any arty contacts who could put one together? If you have then send me one and I'll mail it to Dr Mishra.

Hi:
I'll experiment with ideas for a poster this weekend and publicise the next support group meeting at a mental health regional forum tomorrow.

Hi scotty
Great to have another "Geordie" even though you've been importated!
Certainly come along to our next meet up - it would be totally wrong of me to call it a meeting - more a gathering of creative interesting people who have been dx with Adhd or suspect that's what's lurking in the background!
We're meeting in the Collingwood Pub, Brandling Village, Jesmond, Ncle on Mon 20th June 7-9pm. Watch out for parking restrictions monopad got stung the last time. Where were you dx?
See you on the 20th

Hi Scotty: That's great news to hear you will be coming along to the meeting* on the 20th.
Annie: Update: the HR manager at work has passed on the message I gave her to a colleague who, I've just heard, confirmed that they will be coming along to the next meeting. I'm waiting to hear about about another two people from another project as well. I announced the formation of the group at the NTWSU&C regional network meeting yesterday. A lot of people get the minutes of the meetings (service users, carers and cross sector workers attend from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear) so - hopefully - that will lead to more characters attending.
Annie and Magicgal: for future poster / leaflet purposes: are you happy with it being called the 'Newcastle ADHD Support Group' or do you think we should call it something like the Northumberland, Durham & Tyne & Wear Adult ADHD Support Group, to encourage people to come along from right across the region.
* meet·ing (for further clarification Annie!) 1. the act of coming together. 2.an assembly or conference of persons for a specific purpose. 3. A coming together of two or more people, by chance or arrangement

A BTW is Ross Noble from around those parts? (See posting about Rory Bremner on main web site as to why I ask.)

Hi Atticus:
Yes, Ross Noble is from this area; and, yes, he has to be a likely candidate!
I would imagine that Annie will email or PM you re your kind offer of setting up a page.

Hi Atticus
I've pm'd you
Monopad - thanks for doing the networking! Possibly best to call it the Newcastle Adult ADHD support group. At least those who might be able to travel will have been through Dr Mishra's clinic which is based in Newcastle and will identify with this.
Magicgal - belated Happy Birthday.

Hi scotty
It's really difficult to find a time which suits everyone. One of the founder members can't do weekends because she's self employed and that's when she's at her busiest.
Do you work in Newcastle and/or do you do shift work?
For the moment we'll stick with the Mon night and hope you can get along but maybe as the membership grows we will alter the time - hope I haven't put you off!

Update from the North East - we're now 4 or is that 5?!
Had an unexpected visit from "outer space" i.e. not a native. Guess who - yep Planetdave! Thanks ever so much for driving all that way - hope you get back safely.
Next meeting 3rd Mon/month (July), probably the Collingwood Arms but will post if the venue changes.

The site clock is still on winter time. I only got lost once on the way home - thanks sat-nav Fortunately the A1 was only shut northbound so I wasted a medium level panic for nothing. Tsk.

Hi Planet Dave, Annie, not planet Dave, and Magicgal.
As Annie noted: it was good that you could make it up from Manchester and it was heartening to meet another Dave from the same planet. I got sidetracked on the way out and forgot to bid you all a safe journey: it turned out that the owner of the pub remembered me from way way back and she had loads of stories about where we grew up. One thing's for sure, even if we don't find a quieter alternative venue, we'll always be welcome at the Collingwood (didn't mean that to sound like an advert).

Hi
Glad You've joined the Forum.
Yep the support group is still going. We meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at the Ivy Club in the main building of St Nicholas Hospital Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne 7-9pm.
It's very informal - a mixture of people who have already been dx and others who are going, or thinking of going through the referral route.
Just in case your Gp doesn't know there is an Adult Adhd clinic run by Dr Mishra at Collingwood Court, in the grounds of St Nicholas Hospital. The tel no for the clinic is 0191 223 2856.
Don't let your Gp fob you off. I met some one yesterday whose Gp told him it was too late for him to have an assessment - load off bollocks!!

Hi
Yep the group is still going and growing!
The next meeting of the group is on the 21st May at the Ivy Club in the main part of St Nicholas Hospital - the building with the clock tower. just up the drive from the Collingwood Court Clinic. It's from 7-9pm and very informal.
Dr Mishra has now left the Trust and I'm trying to find out what arrangements have been made to cover the clinic in the interim.
Hope you're able to come along.
