Went to get my prescription today and for the first time ever got a load of attitude from the pharmacist. My psych warned me about this, and I've been asked for ID before, but this woman was just plain rude She refused to give me meds until she could speak to my psych on the phone! Which of course is impossible because he's busy treating people She asked me if I have a personal number for him!! WTF! Does she think I've asked a friend to write me a prescription?! Stupid woman wrote on the prescription too so another pharmacy wouldn't dispense it either, as it just looked dodgy

Was she rude, or just doing her job, and avoiding any £1,000,000 fines and 6000 year jail terms that pharmacists' can be given?

She was rude - stated very bluntly that she was refusing to prescribe, with a sour look on her face, and explained that she would not give the meds without checking my psych's gmc number, which is fair enough, except she would only accept it from him, not his secretary. When I rang his secretary she had not even spoken to them and had no message on her answerphone - she's very good, and was surprised by their refusal to prescribe.
I have had a few pharmacists refuse to prescribe before and they explained quite politely their grounds for doing so without pissing me off.

OP stated she had a prescription, the pharmacist refused to dispense. Strange, you would think they'd be fine with it, since the doctor is responsible.
The first time I went to pick up meds from pharmacist he seemed a bit suspicious, but I think the fact Im from NIreland and was in a pharmacy in England seemed a bit odd. My local pharmacist has no problem, never even asks for ID.

If a pharmacist takes the refusal stance based on the outward appearance of someone with adhd/awkward behaviours, then they are going to be very hit and miss with their success rate of refusing the ones that don't fit their category of "safe" to dispense to.
JR1985, that is mad innit?

My pharmacist was v cagey too - sought further info from my doc and wouldn't dispense until he'd had the fax. Annoying thing is, I was trying to shop around - he refused, as did others, to quote a price.

i always go to tesco pharmacy, i havent ever had a problem. most of the time now, i see the same people behind the counter and they dont even ask for my ID, however, the last time i picked up, it was a different time of day with different people and i had to wait for the actual pharmacist to hand them over to me and had to produce my ID and sign the little box for meds that are class whatever.....
but i have never been frowned upon, or spoken to badly, just the ID thing sometimes before they will actually hand them over.
i have always found them to be really helpful actually and i dont think they have ever not had the meds either, well, maybe once or twice in all the time i have gone there, but they would always be able to get them for the next day anyway....

Pharmacists don't prescribe, they dispense. Yes I know. I said 'dispense' originally. Pardon me for mixing up my words during a pissed off, unfocused, unmedicated moment I've been refused before because of the wording of my prescription - some query it, others don't. I never get refused in Croydon pharmacies, although I do get asked for ID (very politely I might add). It's when I go elsewhere, I get refused, usually in smaller pharmacies. This time it was a pharmacy near work in Bromley that refused. Perhaps my Croydon accent led her to believe I was a drug dealer

You a Croydon gel, ditzy? Me too (sort of). Optomistic's a local, too - we're nearly up to critical mass for a support group! Maybe I should revive that one.... ;D

I'm Croydon born and bred I've tried to escape a few times, but always end up back here! A local support group sounds good I can't really make the central London one.

Well, apparently I cant get my meds in the pharmacy (Wales mind you) and I have to go to the local "Mental Hospital", might be a more polite way to say it but "hey ho", and I have to show them my ID every time and sign for them, and my doc often works there !!!
But, small price to pay... well, very small - us Welsh get our scripts free !!! Some advantages to living with all these sheep !!! x

Actually its not too bad - its only bout 15/20mins from my house, set in a nice peaceful spot (guess that helps a lot) always easy parking and I've only ever had 1 person in front of me in the queue.
Cant say I mind it - could be worse. Mind you, if I went there in the state I was in last night, ooshiny, think they may not have left me leave !!! ha ha x

Misslunatic: maybe the reason theyd rather You go to the hospital is because the doc knows that other chemists could be so suspicious.
I've only picked up my prescription once so far in cardiff but the pharmacist asked me if the prescription was for me and then gave me a disbelieving look. I also has to wait 10 mins for them so I'm not sure if she was checking it up or something. Im too embarrassed to try my local pharmacy at the moment as back in the winter I went there and asked for a non drowsy cough medicine and the pharmacist in the back room came running into the shop behind me and by the look on the cashiers face he was telling her not to serve me. He'd misheard me and thought I was asking for the drowsy one and I was so ill he obviously thought I was some junkie. I was absolutely mortified and went straight home and had a shower and did my hair and make up because he'd made me so paranoid haha. So I doubt I'll be taking my prescription there as they already think I'm some sort of drug crazed loon haha
