Chemical Cosh for Kids?: TonightITV1 The number of hyperactive children being given controversial drugs to control their behaviour has almost doubled in the last five years. Julie Etchingham investigates what is behind the increase and asks whether parents and doctors are too keen to use medication to sedate children as young as four years old. www.itv.com/tvguide/ 7-30pm Looks like we are going to have more stigma attached and firing back at ITV-----hope it will be evenly balanced!!! .... they put a programme on about children .... unfortunately this programme is on at 7.30 .. isn't this just about the same time parents are trying to get their children to bed??? Especially children with ADHD when bedtimes are often a total nightmare ... I bet hardly any parents of ADHD children managed to watch this ... ridiculous .... or maybe ... intentional? perhaps they didn't want all that feedback??

I found program was patronizing to wards family with new baby! I have 4 children & my 3rd child has been diagnosed with ADHD. I have attended parenting classes, eat healthy + have a firm but kind approach 2 parenting. In my opinion this program was victimizing the mother who wanted 2 medicated her sons illness! My son gets muddy & dirties his clothes on his way to school like the boy in the program. I hope my parenting isn't judged in this way by teachers, doctors or anyone else in the health profession. I watch that programme same old rubbish I have a child of special guardianship with ADHD I do my best everyday with my child I help school yes he takes medication and yes I've been offered an higher dose but refused cos I no it's not the answer. But my parenting not like that. You make my child condition a joke to society you want try living with what I go through he six you have watch him constant I take him out everyday and people say to me how much Energy and that's my fault. He dangerous he not spiteful though which I'm thankful for he has broken so many things everyone of is toys are broken he never use to sleep he would be awake from 2 in the morning till 7 the next day. As for appetite he has healthy one and he is growing the right height. But it's always negative reports every time.

When the programme started I thought here we go again, but it was far more balanced than some I have seen in the past. They have a long way to go yet, but I think the media will eventually come around to realise it is something to be taken seriously. Numbers of ADHD are rising, but autism dx are also on the rise.

For once it would be nice to see a program on ADHD which doesn't just focus on out of control boys. This is why people think it's an excuse for naughty children as they are never shown there's so much more to the disorder and effects different types of people. It would probably be more accepted if people were shown all forms of it as they would probably then realize that they actually already know someone who acts like that and realize it's more common than they thought. And would it kill programme makers to put some ADHD positives in there once in a while? Like how we are more likely to start our own businesses(Richard Branson anyone?), how we can hyperfocus on something that catches our interest and become an expert in that area? How ADHD is linked to autism and dyslexia which means it isn't made up. Ok I'm gonna go take my meds now before this rant goes out of control hahA

Could a class action suit be taken against these groups that are creating unbalanced articles/programmes', hence sustaining the standard response of "we all do that sometimes; you just have to concentrate; pull yourself together"?
It's like a sweeping mass defamation of character.
