does anyone else suffer with anxiety picking out something to wear and getting dressed to go out?? I get as far as showering and sitting in my towel and then i panic. what do i wear, what still fits? what looks ok? what if it doesn't fit? then i end up either being late and dumping my drawers and closet out into my room... i hate it.

You know what, that is almost what I do too... for a man I tend to relax in the bath, then leave the rest until the eleventh hour... headaches, anxiety, mood swings follow between the getting dry period and going out period. The ritual of preparation gets me all tensed up.

Not really anxieties, but it takes me ages due to inattention and distractions

Yes.. I go though does it fit, too small, too big.. When I came over from Canada I left a bunch of clothes there.. well donated them to charity shops, because bringing them over would have cost a small fortune.. Had the brilliant idea that I would just go and pick up some clothes here, as I decided what I needed for weather ect (lived all over Canada and weather there is extreme)
and I seem to have lost my mind when I thought that, because I simply hate clothes shopping!
I think I would much rather just walk outside, pick a couple friggen leaves off some tree and be ready to go out. I swear it would cause me less stress/anxiety.

y'know, i dont go out very often, but when i do, i do that! i peer through my wardrobe (or floordrobe depending on how good/bad i have been at putting anything away) and um and ahh... then i pick something and put it on and think.... nah that looks shite.... peer through some more, find something else, take off and chuck down what i frst tried and try the next thing.... before i know it i have run out of time, with a big pile of discarded options on my floor/bed and almost always revert back to my jeans, boots/converse and a top thats a bit nicer than the ones i would normally throw on at the weekend! I do have dresses, but i dress them down by wearing them with leggings and flat mildred 'worst witch' boots and the like ;D i'm not really a big dressy up kind of gal really, dont know if you guessed ;D actually, i dont even know why i bother buying dressy up clothes cos i never feel comfortable and they never get worn really!

i ask myself "what do i feel like wearing today?" and then my mind usually chooses something, in my head, and then i go and wear that. it does seem to work. ask your brain things and it will usually return the answer if you listen.

Don't have any trouble with my work 'uniform' - trousers, vest, jacket (note no ironing ) - but going out socially? If I can't wear jeans, I get fairly anxious. Weddings are a total bust.

Oh god im always in a bad mood over clothes, mainly due to having huge panics about shopping which i hate so mostly buy online and hope for the best!
Im going to a charity ball tomorrow night and as usual left sorting an outfit til the last minute. Ran around Debenhams this morning like a woman posessed, totally stressed out. BUT managed to get 2 x nice dresses, bling and heels in sale for about £50 which was quite satisfying..(Buy one get one free on sale rails). phew...and breathe
I actually feel quite proud of myself for going out and not making up an excuse for once!

Yeah... I ask my brain... and it answers... and then I have to *FIND* the thing it suggests! For work, I just wear the same trousers all week and just grab a different top each day, with a long-sleeved top underneath for warmth if needed. I have so many clothes I don't wear because I can't get to them, but I find it so difficult to declutter...

Lol Ha me too ;D I have absolutely no idea what goes with what - I try looking at other people to see what they wear - but it still doesn't translate into anything that could be concocted from my wardrobe most of the time..........if I do find something that works I end up sticking with it for ages but then worry that people must think I'm a wierdo for wearing the same clothes all the time!

I see no men have contributed to this thread ;D shocked Phil hasn't swept in and changed the subject either... so it would seem my theory is correct. those that don't interest him... don't get barraged and tangent. though now that i've said that, i'm sure he will post now or not just to prove me wrong! ;D i managed to get out of the house with a loose top and baggy linen trousers. but most of my clothes are on the floor now...

If i am having to dress up for a more formal occasion than just a night out, i would probably say it does tip over to anxiety.... not off the scale necessarily, but certainly more than your average bear and a definite stressed feeling did you have a nice time? the last time i had to dress up proper, was for a wedding, i sat there feeling really dogs-dinnerish, very uncomfortable, we were staying overnight in a hotel, and i loved it once the lights went down and the party part began, cos i nipped to my room and changed into my 'normal' clothes and then slinked back in to the 'do' un-noticed that i had changed back into my comfort-zone clothes .... and proceeded to enjoy the rest of the evening

I wear the same 'uniform' to work everyday. Black trousers, pastel-coloured shirt and black closed in flat shoes. Saves having to worry about what to wear. I work for a council and some of the people in my department dress like thye're on a day out to the sea-side and others dress in clothes that I would consider, in my old fart way, entirely inappropriate for our specific workplace.
Since relatively recently, I now have clothes for off duty too and never mix the two. If I do it feels plain wrong.
On my days off, if I don't get my knickers on, then I probably won't get dressed at all. The most efficient way for me to ensure I get dressed on a day off is to get all my clothes laid out before I have a shower.
Same goes for work days. I will lay everything out so I only have to assemble myself.. If I have to go looking for clothes to wear - ie rooting something out of the ironing basket and then ironing it, then I am probably stuffed.
