Hi everyone, am new to the forums. Yesterday my husband and I went to see a Clinical Psychologist about difficulties with our teenage daughter. We also have a son with severe autism, age 15 diagnosed at 3.
For years now I thought my husband had a very mild form of Aspergers Syndrome because of our son having autism. Yesterday the psychologist said she did not think my husband has AS, he can function socially and at work and has been in the same job for years. We werent there to get a diagnosis for my husband but from talking with us for an hour and a half he asked her outright if she thought he had AS. So anyway we both left feeling reassured that she can help our daughters issues, but came away feeling like our marriage was still in great difficulty!
I got thinking about ADHD this morning and he seems to fit most of the symptoms. His time keeping is extremely poor, always late for anything, can be inattentive, extremely adrenaline driven, talks non stop even to the point about what he is doing or going to do throughout the day, even to the toilet! He has a very optimistic character but says often that I have no idea what crap goes through his head. He is a good practical hands on father with our two kids, but can often be like a kid himself too. He has obsessions with cleaning the house (I am lucky I guess) but it drives me insane sometimes and when there are difficulties, when we argue and pull each other to pieces it always ends up about him, how he feels, so I leave feeling unheard most of the time.
He is extremely stressed at the moment, but thankful that he doesnt have AS, so am I, but I know there is something else and I think I have found it. I am no professional, but the signs are there. My dear husband is a very exhausting person to be around
