Oh yes!!! I have to divert my brain by listening to stories on the radio when I want to get to sleep at night... I do remember the distinct sensation of quietness when I started on methylphenidate (had never before known that sensation!!)

Yes - me too. It's like the minute I lie down in bed my brain goes into fast-forward mode! Drives me nuts

yep. drives me mad. Effects more than just sleep, relationships, house hold tasks etc etc..
My solution is intense gaming. Normally try overload myself but it takes a fair amount of time.

I started listening to music at low volumes on headphones to sleep when I was very young. As an adult, I switched to audiobooks. I try to get the volume so low that I can only really understand it if I'm paying close attention. I set the "sleep timer" and away I go. It works most of the time unless the book is really, really fascinating.

Uch gaming will get me all hyped up. When I played WoW my insomnia got even worse. Meditation, sort of, helps me sometimes. As does reading and putting the book away at the exact moment of tiredness. if I keep on past that I'll wake up again. And, to be honest, an orgasm works wonders oh and I have this one mp3 with a thunderstorm and rain sound on it - if all else fails tht knocks me out pretty reliably.

Hi Helen, Completely get where your coming from -
Eingang I tried the audio book thing, I had Take of Two Cities.... BIG mistake! 12 hours long and I stayed awake for 6 hours through half the book! lol

BIG mistake! 12 hours long and I stayed awake for 6 hours through half the book! lol Thry either music you know very well (so it can be easily ignored because nothing novel) or music in the instrumental/trance/ambient genres if your familiar music is too varying in volume, shouty, or fast-paced. That might work better if you get too focussed on an audiobook.

Thinking about it, as a child I always had my walkman beside me to go to bed - I had a tape of classical music that i used to drift off too as I didn't sleep then either! always woke up with my earphones wrapped round me lol -
Helen, another thing I do now though is play the keyboard - not that i am any good, but I listen to some music and then try andplay it - the frustration gets so great that i dont think of anything else! try and do something that will totally over whelm you (but enjoyable)
