why am i having to have an ecg before they start me on meds because at your age your ticker isn't what it used to be. if they put you on a stimulant it could give you a heart attack if your heart isn't healthy.

Actually, some docs do it for adults at any age, as a precautionary measure - as kameel says, stims can put pressure on the heart, which could be problematic for someone with a previously undiagnosed heart defect. If you're an otherwise healthy person, it should just be routine, but it's not a bad thing to be sure.
