I'm very sensitive to sounds and light, especially when i'm tired. i can't go to sleep if there is too much light at night time, but i can sleep in the day. very weird. also if there is a mosquito or fly in my room when i lie down i have to find it and kill it before i can go to sleep. or when i'm in the car if something is rattling round i have to pull over and find it and make it stop or i can't concentrate on the road and i get very irritable.
and to answer your question, no they are not the same thing.
the second is subjective.

Thanks for the responses.
kameel:I get a lot of the same. I find eating sounds the worst though. It really, really winds me up regardless of who is doing the eating.
kreate: I don't think the misophonia is caused by GAD, more that it is a causal factor in manifesting GAD. If someone is brutally crunching crisps nearby it makes me anxious. And angry.
shiny: :-) worst thing is I'm a bit of a tapper too. Just can't keep my leg still sometimes. And I constantly tap musical rhythms on my keyboard at work, as it helps me think. My colleagues must find me as infuriating as I find the noisy eaters amongst them.

Listening to anyone eating cereal is enough for me to commit murder. Slurp... crunch, crunch, crunch. Slurp ... crunch, crunch, crunch - AAAGGGGHHHHHH! Or people gulping when they're drinking. Grrrrrrrr.
Loud TV / computers really bother me too.
I also have hypersensitive skin - can't bear to be gently touched or stroked. It makes me feel like I have ants running over my skin. When it gets bad, even my own hair pisses me off as I can feel it touching my face and neck.

When it gets bad, even my own hair pisses me off as I can feel it touching my face and neck. My ex was a noisy eater and he drove me bonkers with his lip-smacking. And I keep my hair shorter than most blokes, because I can't bear being able to feel it around my ears. Also hate noise when I'm trying to sleep - used to drive him bonkers by waking him up to ask whether he could hear the indeterminate hum/insect/thumping sound of neighbours having a party a street away....

people gulping drinks drives me nutty too.... and if i ever become aware i am doing it, i have to consciously stop myself too. its not nice when the sound is all your brain can focus on, drip drip drip tap tap tap gulp gulp gulp stomp stomp stomp its horrible though, because at the end of the day its just people going about their business and i hate that sometimes it annoys me so much, it just makes me feel like a really intolerant person TBH

I agree boo. I don't like the fact it makes me intolerant either.
A few days ago I had to stop in the street so as to put some distance between me and some guy with really loud, clicky shoes who was walking along next to me. The more I tried to ignore the bloody clicking the more I fixated on it. Oh well, another comorbidity to add to the list ...

We used to have a guy working at our place who wore Cuban heels and walked in such a way that the clicking was exaggerated on the laminate floor. He thought he was a real cool dude and a bit of peacock dresswise. He used to love the sound so much he'd look for any excuse to walk across the floor. I used to try to call the customers around to see him as promptly as possible just to thwart his clicking ambitions!!

People chamming while they eat. OH does that with cereal.. usually he eats breakfast early and quickly (I eat mine at work) so I wouldn't normally notice and there's no-one else to take exception. Anyone else tapping and clicking pens (I don't hear myself when I do it though!)

Ha! I know what you mean Mouse. There are a couple of poseurs where I work who seem to think that noisy footwear with a suitably stompy swagger are the height of sophisticated self expression. To mind mind they look like total a-holes but that's just my intolerance, I'm sure ;-). Needless to say, my iPod gets used a lot when they're about.

The bit that used to get me about 'the walk' was the thrust of the hips and literally laid back upper body as if to direct all feminine gaze at the crown jewels area!

Indeed, both miscreants I mentioned ( one of each gender ) walk in a manner (I would imagine) they believe to accentuate their respective self-perceived 'desirable assets'. Bizarre.

Oh cool - Misophonia!! A whole word encapsulating all those stupid things that drive me mad. Can I add noisy slurpy kissing to the list? Is it really necessary for the film-makers to include that bit? Ick ick ick!! Hmm, now I've seen the wiki entry I feel less and more weird all at the same time!!

:-) Tap shoes always spring to mind when I hear clicky shoes. Or horses.
But it is nice to finally find a word for this whole noise intolerance thing.
