Another work related thread, sorry.
But really struggling with work at the mo. Nightmare client, nightmare project, unsociable & unpredictable hours etc blah blah. To be fair I know I'm making it all worse for myself but just can't get on top of it.
It's the same old cycle all over again and I'm really tired of it and because of it. Don't want another meltdown like a few years back but can feel the signs building up again.
Problem is, I love my profession (being a techie) but it finally dawned on me the other day that there's never going to be a moment when I get on top of being organised and finally get my sh*t together.
So, don't want to quit but can't stay or I'll go mental(er).
Any advice much appreciated.

is freelance an option? better control over hours, pick your projects/clients... probably also less money though, in the beginning...
I just know that "traditional" work made me crazy too. being a self employed writer and filmmaker (though I'm not exactly making money at the moment) caters to my needs much better. it's not such a disaster if I'm having a crappy day and can't get stuff done.

Funnily enough, I considered freelancing years before my dx but ruled it out due to my disorganisation. The frequent change would be great but sadly, contractors in IT generally have to be a bit sharper than permanents to justify the (sometimes much) higher wages they command. I am generalising of course.

could you freelance with an agency? so you would still be managed, but on your own so to speak?

Such things do exist, kameel, good point. Maybe I should reconsider. And give 'Getting Things Done' by David Allen another try :-)

I tried just about every self help guide I could to stay on track in my last job. I begrudgingly told my employers I struggled with everything when being negatively reviewed, and they would just try and give me more and more knowledge sending me on courses for this that and the other. It never stuck. I knew the info, I just couldn't apply it day to day.
Is there any way your employer can bend to you, rather than you bending to them? That would probably be more productive for both of you long term, as they would get to keep your specialist tallent, and you get to keep enjoying your job! Win Win!
