As you all know I'm medicated on Atamoxtine and even though this does help, I feel held back totally when it comes to work. I feel like I want to rush at things and its so hard at times to slow self down all I come across as is anxious. If I take drugs for anxiety like venfaxine or any of the others and Ive been on many, they just dope me up. So it makes the concentration harder, and I don't seem to get things. When it comes to work I try so hard believe me I do. I don't know why but jobs never last long, its like I cant sustain the concentration, or the ongoing you need to concentrate, slow down etc any longer and it just goes. All I want to do is work I don't care what even if its cleaning anything, just to pay my way in the world. I'm currently off sick because my dad has terminal cancer and I cant focus or concentrate at work. I did try but I think the stress just made me anxious. I just want to be like other people work and pay my way at 36 I don't know if Ill really ever succeed at this.

I am saddened to hear about your Dad. I feel that my anxiety has held me back so much more than my ADHD. Have you tried other medication? (sorry if you have said on here before, I can't remember) Dexamphetamine helps me a lot with the anxiety, but not with focus - but because I am not as anxious, I can naturally focus a bit better if that makes sense. Would a change of career help? Trying something that doesn't require either sitting down for too long, or something that does not need you to concentrate for long periods (short periods of concentration seem ok for me). Saying that though - I don't actually know what you do for a living. I get satisfaction in my (very) part time job caring for a young autistic man. We do different things every time we go out - we get on pretty well and we understand each other. I don't know if this type of work is your style though. I always had a problem with authority when I had a job, it usually ended up with a fight with a higher up member of staff. I could probably bite my tongue for longer now I have medication. But the beast is always there, in the background! If I didn't have ADHD, then I wouldn't have impulse problems, I would not have become addicted to gambling, and I would not have ended up making a living out of it. I sometimes wonder what I would have done for a living if I had not had ADHD. Probably a scientist of some sort cause of my autism John

Massively Iknow how you feel, you want to work, you need to feel like you are getting somewhere in life. And because of things out of your control nothing ever seems to work out, I hope you find something you really have a passion for and that you get what you want. When life piles it on, it really piles it on.

True I have a passion for caring for people and being creative. I have this urge to rush at things its so hard to slow it down. But because Im always on go people think your anxious. My self esteem is so low I wonder what others are thinking of me and seek approval in jobs. Because of bad experiences Ive had. i think im better working on my own at my own pace then I havent got to worry about what others think Does anyone know about jobs that you can do on your own.Id love to set up own business but in what? Im gonna fight this though. Ive come off venfaxine and am now on atamoxtine because I think venfaxine was doping me up thus making concerntration worse. Its trial and error. All I want to do is work. Generally my longest time to hold job down .is 18 months with cracks from the outset.

Thanx Phil thanx for your kind words, we can be so misunderstood at times. I get things done i just goes round it loops instead of straight lines. I wish people could see past this. If I didnt wear my heart of sleeve and be so open in personality and emotions, be more closed off and focussed and harder Id of got further but its not to late. Im nursing my terminally ill dad to prevent him going into a hospice and being cared for by strangers, imalso supporting my mom. After this im gonna get head sorted through cbt and learnin g to deal with emotions thoughts and feelings be hard and cut off. So I suceed at the world of work Ill just be bubbly carefree self outside work and be a robot inside work.

Meggie are you taking your ADHD meds while you are at home not doing very much physical activity? If you are, this could be why you are feeling so wound up hun. Your meds are given based on you working and doing things to stimulate you brain/body all day. if you are just on your tod or not doing much in a day, you will be overdosed basically. it will make you feel really uneasy. I get it sometimes when I'm off work and i take my meds. i get headaches, tummy problems, anxiety, heart palps and i feel really jittery. My jaw aches and i chew up the inside of my mouth. Maybe being on different meds or different dose while you're not working and got so much going on might be worth speaking to your doctor about. xx

They gave me one when they were trying something different for me. it wacked me out at work,(couldn'tdrive) but i reckon if i was at home and worried about a lot, it would have done the job! lol and before anyone corrects me, i know Atamoxtine is not a stimulant.
