After getting a different GP I went onto the NHS line. And I only can say that I was very happy with my Psychiatrist. I think I was lucky with him. He explained that he usually only has kids and teenagers but no adults but he was working with me through this and kept up with me and changed meds with me.. Absolute great! Sadly he changed to a different place of work now. :0(
I also had once as my Psychiatrist was in Hols a different one and I did not like him at all. He did not seem to listen of what I said nor did he have a read of my file (which was very short) before our appointment so the hour with him was wasted on the questions he asked me he could have known the answer to if he would have had a look into my file.
I think you can have with all of them a lucky hand or an unlucky one. I wonder who my next new psychiatrist is as I think in April I shall be on with a review of my meds and all that.
I only had to wait a few month from GP to Appointment. :0)

Canesmum - are your appointments at the Cornhill Hospital. They do seem to be slowly building an appreciation of adult adhd. The good psychiatrist you had must have moved from Child and Adolescent Mental Health to adult services (you were lucky). CAMHS and adult mental health services are separate. We have people coming the support group that say when they are at appointments with the "specialist" they can see that the psychiatrist is looking up the symptoms on the screen and reading from them at the same time they are providing the assessment.

I ended up going private in Edinburgh and was diagnosed and medicated there and then after a 2hr consultation. Best money I ever spent, and from gp referal (Westhill, aberdeenshire) to diagnosis and prescription (Edinburgh) was 3 days. Yep. 3 days.

I had two brillant psychs at cornhill, starting around a decade ago, cdnt fault them, both v knoweldgable, willing to learn from me and let me choose.my meds including offlicence combos and supported me 100% including getting.dla. I have worked in mh (after dx and a coulke of yrs of treatment) and know.both.these psychs (one retired) have excellent reputation. Having worked in mh i know cornhills seriously lacking in sm ways, but they were great for my adhd. Only area i wdnt fault nhs.
