Brighton Adult ADHD Group has been invited to contribute directly to a new cross-government disability strategy. The Government has published a discussion document with questions and Brighton Adult ADHD Group wants to gather your views, to make sure we represent the experiences of people with ADHD in Sussex. To share your views please come to our discussion event. We will have a speaker from the Office for Disability Issues. Date: Wednesday 7th MarchTime: 18.30 – 20.00Location: The Brunswick Room, The Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YDLight refreshments will be provided For further information please contact Caroline Williams on 01403 733931We want to talk about practical ideas that will make a real difference to your life. The Government has asked us to focus on three areas: - increasing individual control
- changing attitudes and behaviours
- increasing individual control
We have made a questionnaire with questions relating to each area that can be downloaded here: adhdbrighton.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/adhd-questionnaire.docIt would be helpful if you could fill in your responses before coming to the meeting, and bring them with you. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please email your responses as soon as possible to mail@adhdbrighton.org.ukWe will send a report of our event to the Government. They will look at everyone’s suggestions and work with disabled people to publish a new strategy later this year. If you want to find out more visit www.odi.gov.uk/fulfillingpotential

Anyway we can ask questions without attending? It's a little far for me to travel but i most defiantly have a few questions to raise. Such as our treatment during school years, our treatment/support when we have finished school.
Extra help we need to live a more independent life that is not recognized (extra expenses incurred due to having ADHD and other disability's and having no help to cover these.) the lack of trained teachers, psychologist's and gp's.
People with ADHD getting forced into unpaid work if they loose a job, normally we are made to stack shelf at Tesco or work in charity's shops even if these are unsuitable and we are not ready for work.
Even worse is when you end up leaving these placements or get told you can no longer go (maybe you chucked a bean can at a customer and got fired from the job your not being paid for? lol) your loose any benefit and will be unable to eat or pay bills.
I have loads of questions I can think of.
Possibly if someone here is attending they can share some of these in the meeting?

Thank you everyone that attended the discussion meeting last night. There was a representative from the Department of Work and Pensions present who was very responsive to the views about ADHD. Let's hope that this helps raise awareness about adult ADHD. If you have any further comments or views, it is still not too late to contribute. (It does not matter where in the country you live) Please click here to complete questionnaire form online www2.dwp.gov.uk/odi/disability/disability-strategy-discussion.asp You do not have to complete every question and feel free to say as little or as much as you would like. The deadline for the consultation is 5pm Friday 9 March. Thanks again for getting involved.

Note to admins: My apologies about the other posts on the forum, we really did not intend to spam. All of the organisers have ADHD and one them got very excited about the meeting and did not think before they posted. We really are very grateful for the forum that does a really good job serving the ADHD community. The Brighton group first met on the forum before starting a local support group. Keep up the good work!
