I just wanted to put this out there, I seem to keep reading the same story over and over about how bright ADHD individuals are continuously stopping short of certification.
It seems that society has it's priorities wrong when we have more than 50 ways to hold water (hey it's either a cup or a bottle type) yet significantly fewer ways to deliver education (that is recognized) so that those who go on to H.E are not left out of pocket and out of sorts.
I take from Dr Brown more than Barkley but they both have important points to make about the condition. Barkley on motivation and Brown on emotional effect on bright pupils.
I just would like to know how did others find the additional support services in college or uni? Were they helpful and how?
I am speaking as an adult without behavioral problems, learning disability or mental health issues just a regular A-B-C type personality with ADHD. LOL
In my head I am A, ADHD makes me B, the people around me make me C. So, I'm either going to have a heart attack first then get cancer or vice versa.
Anyhoo point is this condition keeps some from shining in the mainstream, which is the only financially viable option that is on offer. (not so much in HE anymore!) I found through research there are a number of initiatives that could be in place to benefit all the students focusing on executive functions.
between my coach(es), the ALS and my lecturers not one person has given me training around that and I personally think that is a great problem.
I don't need therapy I need a formula. Something I can always use and adapt. The Doctors are imbeciles, and the coaches are well meaning. I can talk for England and they let me I need practical applications I have been referred to bloody addiss over 20 times I'm sure, that is not appropriate.
Okay end of rant...please let my know how you have fared there is a charity being put together campaigning for better understanding of the ADHD learner post-18, if you think I am wrong let me know why?
