Just a question I'd like to ask just to see if others have the same probs as me when watching films/telly etc. I can not seem to watch films or programmes that are 'action packed' This was evident when I tried watching quantum of solice?? James Bond film that was on last night. When the big action scenes come on with them falling/shooting/fighting bits and camera is moving to different angles (seems to be mega rapid to me), it just looks like...well gawd knows I cant explain it, a lot of mess?? Fries my brain. If I explain it in a speech metaphor it would be like someone talking normally and then suddenly going "blur flibby dibby flop flumy flar laaa diddy biddyblub" Anyone get this so I can console myself it's ADHD related and if no one gets it then I am truely off my rocker

I rather enjoy action films, actually! It's the slow-burning, "deep" stuff or slower that can be a struggle if I'm not in the mood.

I quite like action films too.
I don't like fast action scenes on channels with lower bitrates, or low frames per second though. It makes things look terrible - almost unwatchable. Quantum of Solace seemed okay last night on ITV2 (I think) on freesat.

I like the films it's just the fast scenes when the camera swaps angles rapidly. It's a very mixed up world for me at times. If a person talks slow I get very bored listening and just switch off but what's worse is when someone talks fast because it really does make my head whirl. I dunno eh but maybe a good start would be to buy a better tv and not watch films through my little free view digi box 😃

Cheap LCD TV's, especially older ones suffer greatly from blurring on fast images. I have made that mistake before. Cheap plasma TV's are better in this regard, but they use more power, are thicker and heavier. I ended up buying a mid range Plasma, and am happy with it. Things have improved since my experience with buying a TV though, I still prefer the more natural colour of a plasma screen, but there are some nice looking LCD's too. I finish peoples sentences when they talk too slowly. If they talk too fast, I have to think about what they said, and usually ask them to repeat it, or talk more slowly. - you sound quite normal to me John

It has really got me thinking about speed being an important factor in visual processing for those with ADHD! I very well may have to incorporate this as a variable in my phd as I am examining visual processing. It's quite cool that a conversation about film speed can lead to something bigger and perhaps very important! I do know that children with ADHD struggle with verbal processing so it is no surprise green that you can get a bit fuddled when listening to heavy music....no miles Davis tracks for you then!

I actually get easily bored with action films. My absolute favourite films are steadily paced, epic, but overall atmospheric. Things like 2001, Lost In Translation, Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now.
I think it's because a really intense "feel" of a film actually satisfies something in my head, but also my mind has time and space to wander and really explore what's going on, without ever getting left behind by a quick moving plot.
That being said, my favourite film ever is Run Lola Run, which is utterly intense from start to finish. Leaves me a bit breathless at the end.

I've not watched 2001 or lost in translation I'll have to have a butchers! One film I'd recommend is pulp fiction. I can honestly say I can watch it over and over again and still spot something I never noticed before. It's not too intense yet is quite thought provoking. Quite an on going topic as to what is in the brief case if you haven't watched it give it a go! top film!

I prefer the sequel, 2010 - genuinely freaks me out every time!

I don't mind action films. I like films that allow my mind to explore the reality of it, good characterisaton and sci fi I guess are examples. Films with crap acting, naff predictable plot get me distracted too much. The Shawshank Redemption is probably the film I hate the most, I could predict every scene in the end.

Have you seen Quantum Apocalypse? Technically, it should be awful (bad science, bad CGI), but I didn't have a clue what was happening until the end and then I was all OH MY GOD I GET IT THAT'S GENIUS

Or Inception...my constant question in this film is "what dream level are they in now?" :-)

I don't like action films; I also don't like films, or books, where there's a build-up to an exciting/action-packed bit towards the end of the movie/book. What I mean is, I like the build-up, getting to know the characters, etc; but if it then goes into a chase/fight sequence, I switch off completely. Or, if it's a book, I skim through or have to force myself through that part, or sometimes I give up completely.

I've managed to get an hour into Soldiers of Fortune, Christian Slater and Sean Bean in the worst film I've seen in a very long time (worse than Lambada).
I'm going to take it in to my next psych appointment, make him watch it while screaming "look what your drugs have done to me".
