Afternoon All, Not sure if many, or any, of you know of Warhammer but, seeing as it would come under the heading of Artistic Endeavour, i figured i'd post it up here. I'm quite into it really, Its a War Game like.... Risk? Maybe ;D That is played on the Tabletop But with physical Models that you have to put together and paint before you play. With having ADHD, motivating myself to actually paint them all is really quite difficult, especially when some of them are mostly the same colours in the same places and are required to be played in squads of up to 30 models! Like so: I have almost 200 of them with only 5 maybe 6 actually done I personally prefer actually modelling them, building them, making bases or converting from other kits available to make unique Models. With the Army that i have chosen i am required to Model and Paint 100 or more Models to have a force i can use on the Tabletop and actually game with. Try as i might though, i can't seem to get them all done. Sometimes i will start some, then get bored or disenchanted with the scope of the task or even find something new that takes my fancy, some new conversion idea i have; which goes south just as soon as i get to the painting stage. I guess part of it is that i don't think i'm really that good a painter, certainly not as good as in the image above. My current ability is satisfactory, maybe even a little better but rarely have i completed one that was proud of, for the most part it just seems like a chore. Meh! They are all just sitting there in a box, sad little Orky faces all unpainted I'll get to it one day i suppose Sapphire

I may have dabbled with war gaming in the past....
Converting was one of my favourite parts of the hobby too, but be warned! It can quickly lead on to other avenues.
I started converted (kit bashing) at first, then a bit of green stuff conversion work, which quickly went from being very small bits and pieces to much larger projects, where 50% or more of the piece would be my own work. I now sculpt miniatures (though not for a living as it's definitely not a business with pleasure hobby) in my spare time and have done a few pieces for a couple of companies (two for Avatars of war).
I am guilty of starting but not finishing too, the way I tend to get round it, is to put an unfinished one to one side (longest time period so far for this is one year) and go to something else. At the moment I have 3 in various stages of completion, but I'm finding I juggle it well, if you can't get motivated or inspired by one, then do something on another, that way they all get done, bit by bit.
I've even found, writing tutorials online has helped me immensely, in finishing pieces, it keeps me enthused in a project by approaching it from a different angle.

My partner is into Warhammer. He enjoys playing the games and learning the rules. I've sat in on one of his games and just couldn't keep up!
I have no interest in playing the game, whatsoever.
HOWEVER
I have chosen an army of my own! Mine is Wood Elves from Warhammer Fantasy. I love them!
I love the idea of painting them and having my own, individual wood elf army.
But I can't get into putting them together which means I haven't painted them. I started. And stopped. And started. And stopped.
I've got maybe 5 little elves put together. 2 of them got base painted black, with little pink hands and faces. And the rest just left grey.
I WANT to paint them. But I just don't..

I don't often paint, but for some reason the sculpting side of things is much easier for me, i do have a woody army too, but I try and sculpt/convert the things I really do like and stick the remainder together. If it makes you feel better very few people have fully painted armies.

I made some model aeroplanes as a child (can't remember how long that particular enthusiasm lasted). I never got around to painting them. I'd forgotten about them until I read your post, Bee.

Mrbuildy, you should see my partner's armies! He's got Imperial Guard (now called Astra Millitarium or somesuch), Dwarves, and recently started an Orc army.
Waves and waves of tiny little men, most of them painted, and painted so perfectly!!
The patience he puts into these models is amazing.
And my army of 5 Wood Elves pales in comparison lol.
Like you, he also likes modifying them, and he's a bit gutted because apparently the sets now are coming in such a way that you can't even mix&match pieces within the sets.
They've got little numbers on the pieces, so THIS set of legs »has« to go with THIS torso.
Lesley, it's amazing the things we remember when someone says the right thing, eh? I had a dream that involved a cactus last night. Had flash-backs when someone started waffling about a spikey plant today. Never would've remembered otherwise!

Ironically, it's one of the few areas (mini sculpting) where I'm incredibly patient, focused and thorough, I've even made tutorials, step by step for complete minis. I even had someone tell me I went way overboard on the details and specifics too, which gave me a good chuckle. bee, I need to finish my list for my woodies, as soon as I've finished a conversion I'll show you if you like? Although I do have at least 2 planned and then a few scratch builds.

Ha! I used to be into this! Used to have tons of Eldar figures and the dragons. Never really played the game - being inattentive-type I used to just read the books (Warhammer and 40,000) over and over again... I was really into the painting, even down to highlighting their irises with a wee brush and keeping them in order... I'm probably a bit asperger's as well, come to think of it.

Not something i expected to see here! I used to play, back in 5th Ed. but things got out of hand (as GW usually does) and i stopped, now i just model and paint. Ork conversions and anything Forgeworld (Models/Books) are my speciality. Though i havent done anything with a model in a while, i still keep up with the coming and goings of the masters of plasticrack. (GW) Edit: One example of my conversions

Wargaming is on my 'carousel of interests' (not taking my attention right at this moment, but it will again). I have a large spess mahreen army and a growing renegade imperial army. lots of rough riders, ineffective but fun, with winged hussars waiting for my attention.
