Hi All,
I have been on a hunt for knowledge on ADHD since being diagnosed.
I have glanced and glazed at text after text, but can you all help in telling me some positives and negatives of having ADHD?
(I realise that a positive for one might be a negative for another)

It's annoying as fuck when you post and get no responses innit. I barely use this site now because of that. However I think for me the only positive is a wicked sense of humour and a sense of irreverence. How that compensates for all the other chaotic shite I suppose varies from person to person. Having zero therapy and no longer taking meds it's a bit shit. But good luck with it all.

Thanks Claudhopper. That link looks to be really helpful and might even pluck up the courage to go along. Whether I listen and pay attention will be another thing!!!!

Aye, true that. I usually don't reply But when someone rants on about people not replying, I felt I had to reply. The replies come from normal members mostly. So if we all thought like magpie, then nobody would get an answer at all. At least I did a search and was productive, rather than just replying to magpie, even if I was blanked by the OP. John

Understand.... But as you say, it wasn't the OP who ranted - it was another newcomer. Pick on him instead

Sorry if it came across as picking on the OP. I did not mean for it to sound that way. I wasn't picking on magpie either, just pointing out a few things. I posted it when I was tired, unable to sleep, and unmedicated. I tend to be quite blunt and to the point when I feel like that. I don't have to come on here and try to help others with ADHD, but I know how crappy the NHS is, and all the hoops we have to jump through etc and I feel that I should help where I can, as people helped me through my traumatic search for a diagnosis. I'm only human though, and personal issues get in the way sometimes. I know in an ideal world I would put my own issues aside, some days I find this easier than others. The good intent is usually there though.
John

It's okay John. I know you are a good egg I was talking about what was said, not who said it.

I didnt think I would cause such controversy out of an innocent of question. Really sorry as I appreciate the wording my of question was not good.
Like us all I can be my own worse enemy and just knowing the black and white of it (ADHD) helps. I realise at the lowest times the positives are nowhere to be seen and the negatives are the only thing keeping us company.
At the moment I am trying to seek my own CBT to just help me kick start my life. Hampshire's self referral italk will not help me as I am already in touch with a psychiartrist for my meds. If they wont help then I will have to go lone ranger in life.
This forum is a form of CBT for me. I know I am new to this place and welcome everyones comments to my inadequete worded posts that I start.
I have looked at all the answers to the post I started and the links provided have been of massive help. I am thinking of making the journet to London to attend the end of September lecture. The links taking me to previous posts with all the positives will be helpful. I dont think there is a need for people put the negatives down as, like everyone, could real them off til the cows come home.
I would put more personal thanks but when posting a reply I have forgotten the names to type!!!! ;D
cheers all

I've been looking at CBT as well. The link livelifetothefull.com doesn't work though.
Hey timbo, where in Hants are you? I've had no luck with getting a competent psych on the NHS in Southampton.

Is it www.llttf.com/ or livinglifetothefull.com/ (which redirects to the first).

I'm in Winchester. Where are you? After much stressful thinking abut the lack of support in Hampshire I was maybe thinking of the possibility of starting a group that meets at a pub for an hour. Though i'm not sure because of the following: I would stick with it if I started, If there is that expectation to all that came to know everything, that it would fizzle out, If anyone would come along so that I would then end up being in a pub by myself lookin like a loser and feeling like a loser!!, If it costs money, i'm getting married next year and would not have the time to spend on it etc. The list goes on. The basis and the intention is there though!!! There is some glimmer of positive hope!!!

John I wouldn't say I had a rant. However if that is what it takes to get a response then I'll fucking rant. I just got diagnosed and joined this site to get some support. That I barely got ( to those that did speak to me thanks) I needed advice and got little. So fucking shoot me...bang!
