Hiya, Not took my meds for a good week or so due to health probs that are ocuring with them, along with other issues and stuff. Well, I have spoke about the 'non stop intrusive thoughts' which are mainly shit songs...and I think the thread went on for some time and it was Amazing to see how many of you get the same ;D BUT where the hell do they come from exactly? Now...today's new one that started this morning is 'nick nack paddy wack give a dog a boneeeeeeeee' where the feck did it come from? I havent heard it since I was a kid It's a horrible one so annoying! I try and see the 'songs' through in my head to help it go but when it gets to the last bit it loops back to the beginning again...coes this one is so short the looping is horrible! Anyone got a suggestion to help bugger it off? Lisa

I don't know how to stop it but I'm reading one of Russel Barclay's books and I think it's about poor executive function. I'll get back to you when I have a better idea.
FWIW I get the theme music from 'some mother's do ave em' amongst other things. It's called an earworm and neurotypicals get them too but probably not to the same degree.
Also I get in my head the stupid questions that this bloke used to ask whom I haven't spoken to in years. I think stress makes it worse.

Wow I totally didn't realise that was due to ADD as well! I thought everybody had it but just seemed to be able to tune out of it better than me.
I get Florence and the Machine, Disney songs and Go Compare... The first 2 I don't mind as much.

if it helps, i first read the thread title as being a lyrics from 'cool for cats' by squeeze, which at least might be a better song to get stuck in your head. i try to focus on songs i like, or listening to the song (or drowning it out with other songs) can help.

Ohhh dear go compare!!! Ohhh dear ohhh dear that ones awful!!!! Is that what it's called ear worms? I think I must have ear slugs or ear eels Cool for cats is ok but coes I'm trying to replace the dog for a cat my head won't let me remember the words yet I know that song well. I'm getting..,......do be doing 90 coes it's got nowhere to go the cowboys and the fishes do be do be doe, meanwhile at the station there's a couple of likely lads that forgotten bar she at oooohhhhh ah ohhhhhh! Another point about thoughts I was once told by a doctor it's impossible to have two thoughts simultaniously well I can because I can think on top of a song! Can anyone else do that? Give it a go and see! Thanks to you all xx

I don't think this is an ADHD thing. Everyone gets earworms - even those weird NTers

I think that we just get them more often due to having filtering problems. A bit like ADHD diagnosis - most people will have all the symptoms to a lesser degree. Feel free to say I'm talking bollocks, this is all opinion John

I'll give you half a point though I'll say you are talking bollox because it makes me laugh . I have to agree on the filtering thing.

Oh, come on - surely 'Brown Girl in the ring, traaa la la la la!' was much more catchy? 'She look like a sugar in a plum - plum-plum!'
'Plum plum!'
'Plum plum!'......

I am going to have to watch all of that now. Thanks (in a good way ) John edit - watched it. It brought tears to my eyes. Almost unbelieveable what he went through and survived.
