Hi all,
I recently got diognosed with Adult ADHD, I am 23 years old and after years of struggling with school, daydreaming all the time, having a quick temper along with a million other things its all starting to make sence. I struggle to read a page of a book without skipping whole sentances or realising i am at the end of the page and i actully dont know what has happened. I have had a lot go on the last few years, my best mate was killed, i am dad to a beautiful baby boy, work has been very stressful and hard. There is nearly no help in cardiff and the phycistit i see is ok but no a specilist in adhd. The only one i can find is in Bristol for £325 an hour! I have been put on 60mg of duloxitine which i have felt no affect. My emotions are all over the place and my depression linking in with me suddleny acting like a hyper 6 year old is really messing my head up. My gf has been good as gold but her mum has had bi-polor all her life so she just want to get away from all that, but its not easy with me. I dont really know what to do next or where to go, it may be abit jumbled and confusing the way i have wrote this, but i am just looking for any advice really. Its really effecing me and my family in a big way and I really cant face going on like this at the moment. Any advice on who to see, what to do, etc would be appreasated. Thanks

Reading - yes me too , exactly. I started on 27mg concerta with no effect, 72mg was better. The meds can take time, stick with it (I'm only 2 months in). I was on antidepressants before diagnosis so I'm still taking them. Not sure how effective they are but I'm still taking them. Have you been offered antidepressants (as most ADHD meds can increase anxiety + depressive symptoms) ? Is your psych willing to refer you to a specialist ? Maybe ask your gp, community mental health team or PCT to suggest an ADHD specialists in your area (information not referral, find out if they exist first)? There are adult ADHD specialists in Neath and Port Tablot, and Swansea but I think they are fairly busy!! Have a look around this board, someone might have posted about Cardiff PCT! Buy your GF some flowers

Thanks for reply. I have been on duloxitine (anti - depressetns) for about 2 months now, and not really noticed anything different. I am seeing him again on Monday, he didnt ask me that many questions about my adhd and how i cope/feel about it so i dont think he knows how serve it is. I will push for an ADHD specilist i am seeing my phys in bridgend hospital and i have seen there is a specilist Dr Bridget Craddock who is in Bridgend. do i just ask to me referd to her? or should it happen automatticly? I know its a long process but the longer it goes on the more frustrated and upset i get.

I was the exactly same on antidepressant and have been through a load of them. I'm only taking them now because I cant be bother to deal with the side effects on going off and on the next one. Dr Craddock has been off for a while but I think she back soon so she might be quite busy over the next couple of months she's also based out of Neath and Port Talbot. I think to get started, get your diagnosis and the right drugs, any adhd specialist would do!
