God, this is so hard to even describe. It's the feeling you've had for most of your life, like something deep inside is just "wrong". It's that longing for something...else, something you can't even put into words. It's the reason you drink and smoke and rage and do all the stupid shit you do. It's the reason you can't sleep at night. It's the place your mind keeps going to in those quiet moments. It's what's slowly eating away at you, it won't stop and it's here to stay.
I call it The Ache.

I call it The Itch (but I stole that from a book).
It's like you know you need to be doing something right now but you don't necessarily know what, and even if you did, you wouldn't know how to get there.
My problem is that all of the things that I can thing of to do to Scratch the Itch, I have already become bored of, or decided that they're bad, or are pointless.

Some may say 'we all suffer this' its like a polo without a hole.. We all have a gap in our core that can't be filled some say its the need for Religion I've no idea what it is but what I do know is that NO amount if material goods eases it I guess we will all continue to 'feel' it forever Doh lol xx

I have ADHD but have not been formely diagnosed. All my behaviours point to ADHD. I suspected it a few years ago but chose to ignore it and put it down to me being 'the way I am'. Now that stress in new working environment is bringing back all those symptoms i think i need to finally take the step to find help and stop giving myself such a hard time.

You can conquer almost any fear if you wish - fear doesn't exist anywhere except the mind

I've recently been reading Delivered From Distraction. He calls it "the itch", but Hallowell describes pretty much the exact feeling i wrote about above. I wasn't cribbing from the book when I wrote it, honest! In fact i'm kind of proud that I managed to articulate the way I felt in a way that chimes so closely with one of the recognised experts in the field.
I'm going to stop now, before I get too smug, but yay, go me.

I can very much relate to this... uncanny how similar it must be for the description to be so tight fitting... I get it a lot these days - feels like a little dark cave that you cant see into is collapsing in on itself and you're fighting to push against it and let some light in to see what the problem is so you can fix it and a million things flash round at the same time and with all the mental effort it simply just ACHES. glad it's not just me.
