After hearing the Medical Matters programme on adult ADHD way back in late March / early April I went straight to my GP and registered with this site. Then I got a referral to a psych who knew less about ADHD than me. He said I couldn't have ADHD because I would have been referred to a psychologist when I was at school. Shame on him because he is older than me and should know that they didn't do that in state schools in the 70s (unless he went to a public school). So I wrote an 8 page complaint. Now, this weekend I've finally got a referral by my GP to Sally Cubbin! If there's a lesson here it is to complain and make it serious and never give up.

Well done for being persistent.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.
I hope the waiting list isn't too long

Congrats!
I love all the "You can't have ADHD because... " excuses given by generalist mental health professionals and GP's given to people who have later gone on to get diagnosed by specialists. You would think if they are going to be assessing patients for ADHD they should at least do some reading on its assessment beforehand!
Did you get referred to Sally Cubin on the NHS? I didn't know she did NHS work still.

It looks like the PCT are paying for my meeting with Sally Cubbin at the Priory. I've got a date now: 20 Feb.. which is ages. At least there's light at the end of the tunnel now and hopefully a more fruitful life beyond.
